North East Americas Meetup: Gauging Interest
« on: July 11, 2012, 12:05:34 am »

Let's start with an introduction.

Hi, my name is PNX... Well that's not my real name, my real name is this crazy thing with a Welsh spelling that you'll probably learn if you actually meet me. I'm 21 years old, I was born in Liverpool (yes, home of the Beatles), and later in life after a series of moves I came to live in OHIO with my parents and brother, I think I may actually be THE ONLY BRIT IN OHIO. For those who don't know, Ohio is a backwater state who's only real claim to fame is THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME, and having A RIVER THAT BURNED THAT ONE TIME. I live in the greater Cleveland area, which is basically a big suburban sprawl that surrounds Cleveland, it's pretty boring.

So a while back I decided to try asking Solifuge, who is a badass motha. To paraphrase, he totally said he'd be up for it, and that we should make like a forum get together, since the only ones that have been done have been nowhere near us. This was ages ago, and I'm pretty sure he forgot about it, then I forgot about it, but now I'm resurrecting the issue.
Solifuge, lives in... Err I think Michigan or somewhere thereabouts, I live in Ohio, the only other person who's location I know is around us is Truean, who will probably be reluctant to attend because of responsible lawyerly reasons, but I'd like to go out and say she is so totally invited (I'd even be cool with it if she wanted to wear a skirt).

I wanted to find out who's interested, and capable of doing stuff in this general region. Because of how it's kind of a 4 hour drive between here and Michigan I was also sort of hoping someone would volunteer a house where we could get together and like, geek out playing video games or board games or whatever, then maybe some of us could crash on the floor to avoid having to make a really long drive twice in a day. But I'm not unopposed to getting a hotel room and maybe splitting it with some random guys.

So, first thing's first, who all is interested, and where about are you (so we can coordinate location)?

Hey, neat! Too bad I'm over in Washington, or I'd join right up. Sounds like a good time though, I'll have to see about any North West Americas meetups...

Well hey, there's nothing stopping you from starting your own, presumably people that would go to one wouldn't really be very able to go to another.

True enough. Perhaps even Toady could show up, if it were reasonably close to Seattle.

It depends on where and when, but I'm in the right geographical location. Hopefully, my car will be fixed soon, too.

Well this is probably going to be in August/September, given that you usually have to plan these things at least a month in advance.

For the record, I've never planned or done anything like this before, but I figure "If you want to see it done, sort it out yourself" still applies here.

Are you called Aaron or Davydd?  Those are the only two male Welsh names.

...? I know a guy named Tâneryr, weird A and all. I've heard of people named Cadogan, Caradoc, and Gawain. I'm sure there are plenty more. (Griffith is a last name I know.)

Or there's Hywel, or Bryce, or Gavyn, or potentially all kinds of crazy names with Y's in them like Clywde. Mine's none of these incidentally, and it's one you'll probably have heard before only you're used to a more Irish spelling. That's the only clue I'm going to give.

Cleveland would totally be drivable for me (Well, a lengthy drive). It's too bad I don't have a car.

Should I change the name of the thread to "The Guess Pnx's Real Name Thread"?

Tell you guys what, I'll bring a packet of chocolate digestives along with me to the meetup, and whoever manages to guess my name correctly gets the whole packet, these things are packaged in a packaging that's undeniably British, so it should be good fun for everyone.

I'm suspicious of those cookies. I'm sure they're laxatives in disguise or something. No sane person would name a regular food "digestives".

I think the name is something to do with old school Victorians thinking that they helped the digestion or something, they're just sweet biscuits with chocolate on one side... They're also undeniably British.
