They're teaming up with Onlive.  Pretty neat idea methinks.

Although as Onlive have said only most games they have have demos doesn't this already break the big promise of everything is at least tryable for free?

I do like the concept of onlive, but the only time I've tried it I found it much to laggy to be usable does anyone have other experiences with it?
I thought it was pretty good. No lag as far as I went.

I've never been unable to demo a game on there, that's news to me.

I use Onlive to demo games fairly often and occasionally buy something that my PC can't run properly.  Never had any problems with lag.

onlive demos are great!

I demoed saints row 3 and faster than light (which introduced me to the platform)

for strategy game there is no issue. for Saints row 3 it was pretty responsive, with some hiccups. I can't really see it for competitive multiplayer fps, but it's ok for soloing.

(I've a lousy adsl with a wireless router, so it should be better in modern countries)

what's good about demo is that are from a time limited version of the full game (usually)

That's not a good thing.

Care to expand on that statement at all?

I'd rather play all facets a representitive segment of a game for testing than speedrun the first quarter.

I really don't believe this will work out, I mean it's claiming that it'll be able to have games on it that no sane major publisher would put on the Ouya. It'll be extremely easy to pirate games on this console, since it's open-source and no major company is going to want their game on it because of this.

That right there? That's BS. Open source refers to the way in which the console and its OS and supporting software will be developed. The games on it obviously don't have to be open source. Neither does a console whose development was open source make piracy any easier than on a PC.

There are, of course, plenty of good reasons why a major developer won't give a rat's ass about the Ouya; this just isn't one.

Eh, it's generally more representative than the cherry picked section you'd normally get.

It's extremely easy to pirate games on any console.

Yeah, even the newest PS3 games are usually out within a couple days or so.

Never saw a demo that was representative. Almost always are the bestest sections.

I just don't get this device. There already a slue of zero barrier to entry  places for video games and novelty programs. Why would I want to buy a hundred dollar console to go through a selection of mostly terrible games to find, possibly some good ones?

I'm already heavily invested in other devices that'll let me do that and more.

It just feels so fucking redundant.

Well think of this way, you're buying a $100 computer, i know for a fact im not gonna get it just for the games im hacking this bitch to friday 8)

Its a android and people can play around with them all they want. They are offering a Tegra powered device (which i like to point out is NOT open source) as a cheap solution for gaming on a small niche of people which i know will do more buggering stuff on the console than just games.
