$3,946,586 on the second day.  It would seem that a lot of people want this thing.

It's not suggesting that peoples pockets are insanely deep to suppose that:
1. They must already have a large TV or monitor if they're considering buying this (Large selling point: Ouya will feature HD-out).
2. They probably already have a smartphone and a computer, especially now that their funds are coming from kickstarter.
3. There are myriad, cheaper solutions for all the individual tasks that the ouya will do.
4. You can buy one of the big 3 consoles for the same or slightly higher price than the ouya.

It's suggesting that the market base for this thing already has enough shit that there's no way they can't afford a dedicated solution or that they don't already have it.  You don't give over $100 dollars average for a product you can't test or read reviews of if you're on a bare-bones budget.  The people investing in kickstarter projects don't have money issues.

They're pushing the free games bit, because it's a goddamn buzzword.  Just like the opensource, HACKERS WELCOME, and android stuff.  Just like 'BIG CONSOLES DON'T UNDERSTAND'.  They're buzzwords.  You throw them on your site and you make your argument sound sympathetic and people will ignore obvious problems with the venture.  We listen for things like that and get excited when we hear them, even if they don't really mean anything.  Their kickstarter page is designed as a nostalgia bomb for people who played on snes and ps1 and genesis.  "remember when you were young and everything was perfect? We want to bring that back"

Their business model is specifically centered around offloading this subpar hardware for a steep rate, then TAKING A PERCENTAGE OF SALES.  This isn't a f2p console, it's a f2try console.

https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_7_8GB?id=nexus_7_8gb

For only $100 more you can have a device that will play literally everything the OUYA can with a more suited interface (since all the games are designed for touchscreen anyway), Portable with it's own high quality screen, from a trusted hardware manufacturer (ASUS/Google teamup). Can double as your e-Reader to boot. Literally identical hardware specs except add a camera, HD touch screen, and battery to the bundle. Plus you can get one right now, no waiting for when they can build them.

Nothing about Ouya is really appealing when you know what else exists on the market.

only $100 more
That's doubling the price. Hardly "only". The OUYA is for a different interest than a tablet.

But you've already spent at least $200 dollars on your fancy 1080p tv.
Otherwise you wouldn't be buying an ouya... unless you're buying an android console to play android games on an android-phone sized screen.  Which... wouldn't make sense.

The cost of the TV you plug this into should not be involved when considering the purchase price. You are buying the console, not the TV. You're not going to want the cheapest console out there if you're getting with it a massive 1080p TV.
And when you're considering the individuals who would want a TV-displayed Android console, there are plenty of cheaper TVs out there. It doesn't only display in 1080p.

But you and others are arguing that the price point is a significant reason to consider this over other options.  It's not.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=android+games+on+pc

beyond that, most of the mobile games are rip-offs of flash games that have been on the internet for a decade.  And saying "android games" is like saying "mac games" or "xbox games".  Being an exclusive doesn't say anything about the game.

I know you can run Android games on a PC. Most computer users don't; thus, they're as well off as if they couldn't.
With or without that, my point seems about as relevant as yours.

OUYA is the Linux of consoles. Or, at least, that's approximately what they're aiming for. Different things for different audiences. People want the OUYA for different reasons than people want a gaming PC.

I thought Linux of consoles was Linux. Or rather Raspberry Pi, which is half the price of OUYA and runs real Linux instead of Android. I really don't see the same mindset that is obsessed with open source really gravitating to this at all.

Console gaming is very differentiated from PC gaming. I think that OUYA combines the console and Linux mindsets. Raspberry Pi is a PC thing.
