Hi. I'm addicted to DF and have been for a year now.It started with light touching... starting up the game... getting frustrated over not understanding the dynamics or ASCII symbols, various times I'd quit. Then I would see someones fantastic story loaded with !!FUN!! and I'd say 'I wanna do that!' and I'd try again. If DF has taught me one thing... it's
DF has a steep learning curve and that is what really makes the game. It is what has had me hooked from day one. I am sure many of you have just nodded at that, I know I am and I just wrote it!
I find myself lurking the forums when I can't play or reading the wiki. Thinking up of ingenious ideas as to how to creativily I can kill the next lot of unfortunate beastlies that come my way. Or maybe just designing a nice punishment for that idiot who put !!JUSTICE!! on my favorite weaponsmith for not making stupid brass trumpets.
Locked him in a room with a rattlesnake that slowly became wild. Ahhh...
Or sometimes I forget about the time when I'm playing and suddenly It's 2AM and I have work in 4 hours. Damn you, DF. Damn you. Could be that sometimes I find myself explaining the game to someone for a good hour just so they understand enough to laugh when I tell them the story about the danger room attempt that ended badly.
Recruiting women into the military? Must have been crazy. It rained babyparts that day. Accidents happen?
It's games like this that keep me entertained. Don' get me wrong, I love Mass Effect 1,2,3 and all those beautiful games but it's the unique replay value you get with DF that will suck you back in even if you drop it for a few months. (Blasphemy and curses upon you!) I'm going right out and saying it... DF is the chess of computers.
I'm Kingsdragon and I'm addicted to Dwarf Fortress.
If anything like the above sounds like your story of !!FUN!! you may be addicted to DF. There is no help for you or me. And if there were I'd probably lock it in a room with
A giant venom spitting web pooping brass plated dragon wielding eyeball melting horror unknown, who is immune to the magma about to rain down upon them.
Thank you for reading!
