Personnel Log: February 1st, 2040I decided to allocate the funds to constructing a new base. The Barracuda's range is pitiful, and we were essentially blind outside of the Pacific. I ordered its placement in the Indian Ocean. Location of recent alien activity, it will extend our sonar and interception range greatly.
I was surprised to find the base construction much cheaper than back in the early Alien Wars. I suppose it may indeed be cheaper to build something underwater than underground, but I have my doubts. I didn't complain to the contractors, however.
I named the base Fort Aqua.
Personal Log: February 2nd, 2040Base construction completed extremely quick. Apparently they already had it ready, they simply had to drop it into the ocean.
I ordered the construction crews to add a sub pen, LR Sonar, and a general stores. Construction will take about a month before the base is operational.
Personnal Log: February 4th, 2040Research into underwater med-kits completed on schedule. I had our manufacturing sector get to work right away.
I have also put off autopsying the corpses from the island attack long enough. We are swimming blind right now. I gave the go ahead to the head scientist.
Personal Log: February 5th, 2040I was overlooking the interior of the Triton when I realized we could squeeze in two more aquanauts. I placed an order immediately.
Personal Log: February 7th, 2040I was looking over sub activity graphs when the head scientist entered my room. He looked very tired. He reported the dissection was complete, and he had disturbing news for me.
The main corpses retrieved from the mission were coined 'Gill Man'. Apparently, the aliens have been here longer than we thought. They were manipulating us before human kind existed, back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. These 'Gill Men' were saved from extinction by the aliens, and were forced into essentially slavery.
I'm starting to wonder if our perception of the universe is false. There was a theory proposed during the early Alien War. Long ago, Earth was seeded for the potential for life by these alien lifeforms, and now they were simply reaping the harvest. Perhaps this alien race seeds planets, goes into hibernation, and comes out to harvest genetic material for their diabolical experiments. Maybe the Sectoids were just like us, just on another world, far far away. Maybe they lost the war.
I shove off the thoughts as mere speculation. We have work to do. I ask the head scientist to dissect the other alien subspecies encountered on the mission. We must know more.
February 8th, 2014I was still considering the ramification of the recent autopsy when the alert went out we had a sub entering the air lock. A transport sub, carrying the new recruits. I quickly organized the paperwork below so I can get back to work.
Joe Chandler requests a gas cannon, and I immediately deny him. We already have 3 heavy soldiers on the field. Plus, I don't even think he could hold one if he tried.
February 11th, 2014A new autopsy report landed on my desk this morning, more terrifying than the last.
The aliens, in their diabolical experiments to create the perfect organism, have combined human and alien organisms. The human acts as the host, while the alien acts as a parasite of sorts. The parasite eats the human, growing and growing until all the human is but a husk for the alien. It has been coined 'Deep One'.
The only good news is that the scientists are inspired by the exoskeleton found on the alien. Apparently it's made of the same material as the subs. They want to experiment with the material to see if they can form some kind of personal, underwater armor. I give the go ahead.
February 18th, 2040The seas are tranquil around here. A sub hasn't been detected in weeks.
I look over the charts. The Antarctic ocean has been steadily increasing in activity. While the Barracudas don't have the range, the Triton does. I send the Triton to investigate. Perhaps we can catch a sub landed.
February 20th, 2040After a long and cautious research project, the scientists are starting to understand the sub material, coined 'Aqua Plastics'. Stronger than even alien alloys, it can withstand the pressure of the deep ocean.
They think they can mold it into a suit of armor, flexible enough for movement yet strong enough to deflect a harpoon. I immediately recognize the value of such a project and give the go ahead.
Personal Log: February 21st, 2040It worked! The Triton found a sub meandering about near the Antarctic. I send all subs on a pursuit course.
~~~~~
The Barracudas, as predicted, didn't have the range, and the Triton simply couldn't keep up. We lost the sub. I send all subs back home and twiddle my thumbs. The funding console won't appreciate this screw up.
Personal Log: February 28th, 2040I am starting to work on a list of excuses for the funding console when a man in a strange suit walks into my room. It's a deep blue, and I quickly realize this was the suit of armor made of the Aqua Plastics. He reports the armor is very strong, stronger than the suits made of alien alloys. Production can be started immediately.
It comes to my attention we have been overlooking the power source of the alien subs. Some yellow material that is unlike Elerium. I give the scientists the go ahead to start experimenting with the stuff. Elerium currently powers every major nation in the world. Another break through in power production could settle the energy crisis once and for all.
Personal Log: February 29th, 2040The funding consoles arrives tomorrow. I am looking over the activity graphs when a spike occurs in the North Sea. Something similar happened in the Indian Ocean before the island attack. I can only assume the aliens hope to commit to a similar incursion.
Personal Log: March 1st, 2040The funding console came today. I could tell they already made up their minds. It was simply a formality.
We incurred a small funding drop.
I used the funds to buy a Barracuda for Fort Aqua and purchase some technicians to help the construction of the armor.
Later that day the klaxons once again blared, and I found myself staring at the hologlobe. The aliens were attacking a central harbor in the UK.
With only three suits of armor produced so far, I had to decide who was our most valuable troops. It wasn't very hard.
The aquanauts were a lot less excited this time to board the Triton. They probably read the previous mission reports.
~~~~~~
At this point I'm just exhausted. I've played a lot longer, but I think fast food has just sapped my energy. I'll work on the 2nd part tomorrow, or maybe later today.
