X-Com: Terror From The Deep - An Orb Let's Play
« on: July 08, 2012, 08:48:53 pm »

That's right! I got the X-Com: Complete Pack, and by popular request, I'll be playing this blind.

I'll be playing in windowed to increase the resolution, and decrease the screenshot size. Sorry if you hate DOSBox Cpu Cycles.

Also, I'm not going to roll over claiming from the TTS thread because we're in the sea now! We got to have sea worthy names. Names that will have a pirate revere our aquanauts with awe or bowl over laughing. Either works.

Anyway, here's the first update:

Having played a bit of TftD, I look forward to your reactions as this game unfolds!

Granted, you're a better player then I was when I played it. :)

It is? I'll have to save often.

Thanks, but I got very lucky. I bet I'll get casualties next mission.

Also, rereading the LP, I realized I made a mistake thinking TA to be FA for my torpedo launcher. Oops. I'll have to change that. Name her Jimmy Bob or something. Glad I didn't fire. Probably would have hit her feet.

Ooh, neat. Sign me up as... uh... Coral, I guess. Preference for HP and firing accuracy, and preferably a sniper/long range combatant.

But then, I suppose everyone wants to wait in the back. :P

Guess what?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'll take a doomed time clone if you're giving them out. Make me TnuhEmilsLatem. I would prefer heavy, terrain destroying weapons.

No matter what you pick after the first battle difficulty is set to the highest that is what I meant by glitchy.

This should be fun. I'll take a scout named after me.

There are some research glitches that bug the research tree, sometimes making the game impossible to beat. Spoiler-free way to avoid them: Get a go-ahead from someone before researching terrorists (alive or dead) or live commanders, and keep at least one of each type of alien sub component and alien equipment in storage.

There's also some appliance that can modify your research tree.

That... is an awesome bug, given the first game was bugged and after loading your save set you to the lowest difficulty.

I thought the challenge was more 'we hate you all for saying our first game was too easy, so it starts from crazy and gets worse'.

I never knew that.  No wonder I always get destroyed whenever I charge myself up and give tftd another shot...

I'll take Scout 2, name 'im Frosty.

Oh, and there are Chyrssalids in this. However, they are much, much, much, much, worse.
