Not sure why the dog went back, but you're better off using war dogs. Hunting dogs don't have many useful advantages over war dogs... yeah, they sneak without a movement penalty and have farther targeting LOS, but war dogs are more effective in combat.

Also, inb4OMGWHYUNECRO.

I'm guessing by effective in combat, ya mean, Fighter skill(melee) and not Archery skill(ranged).  Although they do not spit or use barbs, or throw things, dogs DO get thrown at, shot at, and breathed on.  Not sure how these skills pertain to those attacks, but it is known Fighter skill increases when recieving melee hits(Danger Room).  Might it be extrapolated that Archer skill increases from recieving ranged hits?  Dunno.

Dogs sorta lag behind a stalking hunter, and run off to bury bones, and/or visit their training grounds, during fights.  Also during combat, while I watched this last HUNT with this new confounded follow command, the dog didn't fight, not one entry in the r,report for it fighting.  Hunter took a snooze midway through that fight, before finishing.  Hunting dog just stood 3 blocks next to it, while pincushioned target hobbled about.  That Gander, its pincushioned target, never left the 5x5 region.  Gander did hobble on over, about 15-18 squares away from the initial ambush blood pool/spent arrows area.  Dog never pursued.  Could be how it reacts vs winged targets, I guess.  I'll keep doing SCIENCE.

A long LOS, if shared with the ambusher, haven't been able to determine if observe is shared, would save hunter many footfalls and improve path logic, wouldn't it?  What we need is some SCIENCE!  Or a dev bone.  Necro.  Yeah, I didn't wanna start another thread on Hunting, already too many.  My apologies, Knutor
