Dwarves get run over by wheelbarrows?
« on: July 08, 2012, 12:27:30 pm »

Hi,

I have started my first fortress since the mine carts/wheelbarrows, and I have noticed that several dwarves have been injured over the course of the first year. Looking at the reports, they were hurt by wheelbarrows (broken legs, skidding...). From the wiki/devlog,  I knew mine carts were dangerous, but I thought wheelbarrows were safe.

That's a particular problem for me because I set up my fortress in freezing biomes, so there isn't any running water (the brook is frozen all year round).

Is there a way to prevent these injuries, short of have dorfs haul stones by hand?

Same, I've never had this happen.

could it be because theyre crossing ice/snow with the wheelbarrow?

The wheelbarrows are developing sentience.

Just wait till they ally themselves with the wagons.

Do you have 1 tile wide hallway? Does zooming to the location of the combat report show anything that might explain it?

Maybe not the wheelbarrows? In my fort in freeze biomes the first injure is always because ice cave-in, and death because freezing of water.

I use wheelbarrows extensively, and I've never seen this happen. Where in your fort are the injuries occuring, and does the combat log actually say "wheelbarrow"?

I had this happen to me.

Happened at the base of a ramp where water was flowing down, producing mist.

Knocked a tooth out of one of my miners.

You had mist knock out dwarven teeth?  Or you had a wheelbarrow knock out teeth?

I have also not had this happen ever, and I rarely use stairs for my main traffic areas so I have lots of wheelbarrows on ramps.

I use wheelbarrows extensively, and I've never seen this happen. Where in your fort are the injuries occuring, and does the combat log actually say "wheelbarrow"?

The reports actually say wheelbarrow:
"The -Rough wooden wheelbarrow <#10>- strikes the farmer in the torso, bruising the fat through the (drake scale shirt)!"

and later in the same report:
"The  *dolomite hatch cover* strikes the farmer in the big toe, right foot, bruising the fat through the (rope reed fiber shoe)!"

Are my dwarves also dodging the wheelbarrows into obstacles?

(I play with the Masterwork mod. I use ramps in my fort, usually covered with a hatch so I can lock down in case of siege).

I play with the Masterwork mod.

Jeez... how many of these have we seen in the past few days? If you're playing modded DF, what you experience is different from what someone playing vanilla DF experiences!  >:(

Especially since Masterwork is a gigantic mod that is more of a total conversion that leave almost nothing of the original game untouched.

What are the raws for the wheelbarrow in the Masterwork mod? If they're the same as in DF then the rest of their behaviour should be the same as well.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
