Given the chivalrous setting, there is probably at least some taboo regarding excessive consumption of mortal pleasures. Given the high nobility's tendency to whore it up, it probably isn't a huge deal, but it would probably diminish the reputation of a holyman to be caught going on a wild bender- at the very least, it runs rather contrary to the whole 'charity of Bohromu' thing to have one's face buried in the bosoms of a dozen whores when there are poor peasants in the countryside who have never had the pleasure of a woman's company.

You can reforge a sword LoTR book-style, but not LoTR movie-style.  And as for whether it is still the same sword... your grandfather had this hammer fifty years, man and boy, and in that time it's had three new heads and two new handles.  (Look up the Ship of Theseus.)

If you had your mother's rapier reforged it would quite literally be a case of melting down the steel used and then recasting it, then drawing that out into a newer blade.
