I have to disagree with this, rifling didn't come around for some time AFTER the cannon became the major weapon of naval warfare, simply look at the spanish armada to see, true you had to get close to fire the cannon acurately, but that was no matter since you could still easily keep away from a voading attack, cannons wereused to sink ships as a major naval war weapon long before rifling arrived.
I see your point but, I mentioned their earlier throes. Around the 15th century, some years before the creation of rifling, cannons had already significantly improved over their 13th century counterparts, even without rifling, and the spanish armada became a real naval potency (they were strong before, but not being able to bombard land efficiently due to innacuracy hurt military uses greatly) around that moment in story (the Navigations, starting around the late 15th century).

Someone mentioned Yak being earlier than that and complaining about plate armor. And the consensus about plate armor is that yes, it was efficient even in the beginning of the modern ages.

My bad about the naval-and-plate discussion. :P

So...what about the proposal proposed by me? Did any of the GMs consider it? :s

and who could train me to swords +2?

Gunpowder, although it may or may not exist elsewhere in Iitu, will never reach the Blessed Lands (game continent) during the duration of YaK3.  A deliberate aesthetic choice.  The closest you have to a smoke bomb in this time would be a small pouch of flour you could throw.  It'd cloud vision for a bit, but of course it would then cover everything in flour.

Kestrel:  A master swordsman.

I know that, but are there any masters? Maybe a Bravo, but apart from that, I don't know.

...Kestrel, I'm sure you're using meta in your action here.

This Lord, he doesn't trust me. The 'guide' is probably an agent.

Head out on the path described to me, listening to the tracker. keep eyes and ears open for Highwaymen, or the Troll-hunters.

You requested a guide to aid you, and Renart only did the suspicion after you left.

But who would trust a guy who walks in, asking about a horse merchant and his location, who claims to be an Agent from the King.

hell, I'd be suspicious of me. And I know all about me.

and I only suspect the guide is an agent. not know that he isn't.

Correct, you don't.  Maybe you'll be able to look for one in-character.

Also, Shoot, you're one lucky bastard.  Anything less than a 4 on the opportunity rolls and you'd have had a slave revolt to deal with.  With that said, I'm going to hand over resolution of those rolls to Dwarmin, CG or Nuke (for this one time) because I am now out the door and won't be able to do rolls for the next two weeks.  So... good luck and enjoy!

Renart has guards posted all around the keep, the keep is basically a bastion of soldiers. Of course the word was forwarded but not the exact content.

It was interpreted that you were a liaison from the King on the military//mercantile field, as we lacked horses. You then claimed to be an agent to the King without any insignia or papers as proof, but you were already let in anyway. How can you suspect a man who agreed to give you a guide as requested? How in the world can that be an agent?

@Iituem:

Quote
Proposal: Ships include sailors, and to make them actually be able to be of use in combat, you must load it with a soldier regiment, which has to be either archers or infantry. Perhaps catapults can be loaded too, or more than one regiment for the larger ships. This better justifies the inordinately high cost of making a single ship, and decreases the inherent disadvatages making ships incur, especially throwing away large sums of money on unsure naval battles.

Also, ships would have no upkeep or negliable upkeep.
