Quote
Proposal: Ships include sailors, and to make them actually be able to be of use in combat, you must load it with a soldier regiment, which has to be either archers or infantry. Perhaps catapults can be loaded too, or more than one regiment for the larger ships. This better justifies the inordinately high cost of making a single ship, and decreases the inherent disadvatages making ships incur, especially throwing away large sums of money on unsure naval battles.

Also, ships would have no upkeep or negliable upkeep.

Ships are capable of ship-to-ship combat by ramming or forcing the sailors to fight, but yes - ship-to-ship combat to date has already involved putting archers on ships for naval combat.  I suppose we could consider a boarding action to bring melee troops into the fight as well - on a successful boarding attempt you just capture the damn ship.

Ship upkeep is an interesting question and I'd like to hear more from GMs and players about this.  Historically, ships do have lower upkeep than armies (less on repairs, replaced equipment and maybe food) but are also bloody expensive to build.  How would we feel about increasing the cost of ships to build but reducing upkeep and allowing for ship boarding/capture?

The crux of my proposal is "Abolish the Sailor unit and the ship upgrades(most of which aren't really applicable in this age), assume all ships are manned, and instead use other army regiments loaded onto the ships to decide attack power."

I am completely neutral in your proposal, Skyrunner...Although this would mean I get a refund on my upgrade, yes?

Also, I see that its going to take longer than I thought for summer to arrive. Time to be post a few actions. Are we still allowing espionage actions?

I'm inclined to agree with getting rid of Sailors.  Specialists are on the list for an overhaul anyway, but things like Spy specialists and maybe engineers should be kept.

Summer should arrive very soon, as this should be the last of my posts for two weeks - Shoot was just waiting on me to finish any turns.

Yoink:  I'm not GMing for it, but since you've been missed assume that yes, the merchants are indeed gathered to listen to your proposals.

If you are worried that your action has been missed, quote it here. Surprisingly, the GMs do not have an encyclopaedic knowledge of every post in the thread.
As such, it is likely that rather being born from malice, their failure to roll your action was an oversight, or forgetfulness.

On an entirely unrelated note: Man, it's been the last days of summer for DAYS. What are we waiting on?

I am going to post a series of rolls and the spring actions soon. Do not, I repeat, do not post afterwards; it'll be the summer post that comes next.
