So i made stairs going down to the 2nd z level and set up some stuff down there. I tried to make new stairs and it didnt work. Then i dont even know what i did but i broke the stairs i had and dwarfs cant get back and fourth between the 2 lvls now. spent 3 HOURS trying to figure out how to fix this. HOW DO I REMOVE THE STAIRS / make new ones!?!? its not working the same way i did it the first time and its seriously making me rage. Is the game bugged? seriously 3 hours one 1 set of stairs and its still not fixed, checked all online guides and DF wiki. Nothing there is working... seriously about to put my fist through a wall over this rediculous stair crisis.

Stairs and ramps can be somewhat confusing for new players. I remember having a hard time learning how to do it right myself.

As a general rule: Stairs are usually carved out of rock. So you can designate down-stairs in an already digged out level. To go up from the z-level below you have to designate up stairs there or further up/down stairs.
If you want to build stairs in a already digged out space you have to construct them using the (b)uild and (C)onstruct menu and some rock or wood or other material to build them.
