If anyone is interested, I put out a video of the Lava today!

Looking very nice! I'm curious about a question one of the commentors asked too. How does the system handle filled areas? Will the lava particles eventually become 'still' and sleep until their surroundings are changed? If it is fully simulated at all times, a large spill could have drastic consequences for your FPS.

It's called magma when it's still underground, as it appears to be. Also, it seems a bit too fluid, spreading as rapidly as it is.(Though certain types of magma/lava do that IRL too)

Otherwise, looks nice and stuff. Is it the standard videogame magma(Ie touch and melt) or does it spread heat(overheating neightbouring things), release gasses/ can cool down so you can try walking on it

As in... cut off the source of lava and dump water or something onto it to cool it down?

Or just let it cool naturally, which it would eventually.

I can do about 5x as much lava. So you can get it to fill a volume pretty well. There are plenty of ways I can optimise, will do some more research.

Yeah sped it up a bit to make the video more interesting. It will slow down as it cools.

It has an area of influence, that will cause nearby objects to start smoking and then burst into flames/melt.

When it cools down it becomes rare minerals which are mineable and useful for building things high up the tech tree. :)

Ooo, so making a 'cooling chamber' and a system to let magma flow in and cool will be rewarded!

Which would be even more fun if the top layer of magma would cool first, and the mining drones could accidentally drill through it.

Do geothermal generators exist/ are feasible?

Agreed, magma mining in this way should have some kind of hidden danger. Sudden outgassing, stresses from the cooling rock suddenly being released as explosive shattering of the crust, pockets of magma with in the cooled stone, etc

Is that a sped up vid, cause that magma flow speed looks too fast...

No worries, just letting you know. I like the way it looks. Once it has a proper surface, it will be a nice addition.

Itching for an indev copy I can mess around with! You know you need some alpha testers/collaborators...
