Sound output as fake microphone program?
« on: July 06, 2012, 12:01:49 pm »

I'm hoping to be having a movie night over the internet, which would involve me putting a DVD on, and streaming it via skype. I already found a program (manycam) that allows me to treat a portion of my display as a fake webcam, which can then be streamed from. I need to find a program that allows me to set up a virtual microphone that allows me to send the audio into skype. Ideally I'd like to be able to also use my actual microphone to be able to talk at the same time. I'd also like to be able to get it to only take sound from the DVD player program, and not all sounds, though I can live without these features if necessary. Does anybody know of such a program?

From windows you used to be able to do this without programs of any sort, just from sound management.

I think you are able to do that directly from skype, from the call drop down menu on the top go to share screen

I looked it up, but I don't think I can do that on mine.

Is this part of the free skype service, or do you have to pay for it?

Skype has free computer to computer video calls, but computer to phone calls are not free. They also have other features that you have to pay for.

I just had the movie night, and it turns out that the screen share requires one to pay for an upgraded account. Fortunately, the manycam software had the functionality that I wanted included, so all was well.

I've been using the share screen quite a bit and i have never payed for any upgrade...
Well here's hoping Skype doesn't find out I've been unintentionally stealing their services.

I've had friends share screens with me, but it may have been a case of just one person sharing to me alone, rather than multiple people.
