While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

Thanks! So taverns are now scheduled for after the hero/villain stuff? Interesting. Also, "Dwarf Fortresses are scary places to live" might be an understatement.  ;D

Really nice interview tbh, quite a few tidbits of info there I hadn't heard about before, and further insight into Toady's plans ^^

So elves used to animate trees around the fortress? Wonder if we could get some screenshots. Also wonder if this could be put back in...

I wonder just how much extra content used to be in the game, and was taken out before the initial release.

Given current events, I've altered my profile pic and I'm sorry it took so long to fix. If you find the old one on any of my accounts elsewhere on the internet, let me know by message (along with the specific site) and I'll fix. Can't link the revised avatar for some reason.

Interesting quote there:
Quote
AG: Vampires are an interesting addition to Dwarf Fortress, but how do they operate exactly? They always reminded me of the Vampires from the Witcher, treating blood like an alcohol, and being fairly capable of functioning without it.

TA: The original idea was to randomize all of it, but we didn’t get to that.  Right now not drinking blood just slows them down, but we don’t really have a set idea for them.  The idea is to let a broad range of behaviors take place to keep the random worlds interesting.

Basically, Toady thinks that vampire slowdown ( http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=5189 or http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Vampire#Bugs ) is caused by not drinking enough blood, whereas the player base thinks it is due to alcohol withdrawl.

Also see this:
Rainseeker:
Now, is there a disadvantage to having everybody in your fortress be a vampire? Will they starve, eventually?

Toady:
They will, if you don't keep getting migrants to feed them.

Rainseeker:
Worst. Migration. Ever.

Toady:
Yeah. I mean, your fortress should eventually get marked as a death trap if you keep murdering your migrants and then since you'll have no one come to your fortress your vampires would start to slow down. They don't ever die from not drinking, they just get really slow. If they're at maximum slowness they might still be better overall than a regular dwarf in terms of their combat abilities and stuff because they have resistance to damage and higher attributes and stuff like that. There's not really a reason not to do it. I mean, you would have an evil fort, it would be bad to be a vampire. I guess you'd be more immune to zombie attacks because the zombies wouldn't attack your vampires.

He isn't discounting the possibility that alcohol withdrawal also has an effect, he's simply saying that not drinking blood has the same effect.
