You Have Discovered A Downward Slope!

I breached the caverns, but in doing so i also discovered the downward slope. What does this mean????? Is something horrible going to climb out?

Its a link to the next cavern I think, never managed to explore one because they always spawn flooded for me.

It's just a link that connects one level of the caverns to the one below it.

I recently just lost one of my miners in a magma accident
How do i dedicate a slab to him so he doesnt come and haunt me?

Make a slab at the mason workshop.  Engrave it at the craft workshop.  You may need an engraver to do the engraving there, I can't remember.  Then build it.
