Is a man not entitled to the money from his own exploits? (We're making too much money from manufacturing and tractor beams. What to do?)

'No,' says the man in Megapol, 'he must make it himself.' (Can only manufacture items for income.)

'No,' says the man in Marsec, 'he must take it from the aliens.' (Can only capture items from the aliens for income.)

'No,' says the man in government, 'it is unethical.' (Must rely on end-of-the-month money for income.)

Update 1: Par for the Course

Spoiler: Main Update (click to show/hide)

X-COM END OF MONTH MEETING TRANSCRIPT

RIED: Alright then, settle down you idiots. Now before I begin, is there any questions?

TORIR: Yeah, why the hell are we here?

REID: Because it's goddamn tradition! You always have a big-ass meeting at the end of everybody bloody month! And before you ask, yeah, you all have to attend. Now is there anything else? No? Mullar, you're up.

MULLAR: Uh, thank you commander Reid. Now the-

REID: Just Reid is fine. We're X-COM, not the goddamn military!

MULLAR: But X-COM is... Never mind.

MULLAR: The money from the mining corporations has arrived. It has been earmarked for more fighter craft. Additionally, thanks to... everyone's efforts, Digburrow Ore/Steel has decided to set up operations in the Korvan system.

HEAD: Efforts? Two thirds of our fleet got blown up!

REID: Yeah, but now we've got the money to replace them.

REID: I've authorized the selling of almost our entire stock of alien junk and kink-knacks. Along with the funds we received from the corporations we had just enough to buy three more fighter craft, meaning that three more of your spineless bastards are going to be joining Ashana in flying patrols. I'm thinking... Torir, Cin and Head. Good luck you idiots. What's next?

TIM: That would be me.

TIM: Advanced Laser research has been completed, and two new weaponry designs are already on the drawing board, the Gatling laser and heavy laser. If X-COM requires them they should be ready in less than a week.

TIM: For now research is being conducted on tractor beams, which will be ready with two weeks.

MULLAR: Is there anything new we can research besides those new lasers?

TIM: Besides those two new laser designs, nothing new can be researched. However my sensors inform me that an alien plasma pulse cannon is still in the cargo bay.

REID: I, uh, planned it that way. Anything else?

TIM: No, that is all.

REID: Good. Now let's talk strategy...

Spoiler: Current Pilot Roster (click to show/hide)

(Losing two-thirds of our fleet is tough, but we'll be getting one extra fighter soon anyways. Still, we'd be better off if "FROSTY" hadn't died, because then we would get a ton of points from defending an outpost, which means more money in the bank. Still, what are you going to do?

If anybody has any suggestions about research, I'd like to hear them. To recap, we can research: Solar Fusion, Gatling Laser, Heavy Laser and Plasma Pulse Cannon. We're currently researching tractor beams, so when that's finished we should get a ton more alien junk. It's a shame that I had to sell a lot of it just to cover our expenses.

If I forgot about your character or didn't handle it the way you wanted, sorry about that. I was probably too busy trying not to die (unsuccessfully, as you can see). Just repost it to remind me. Also I'm going to need new names for the fighter craft, if you have any.

The base was named Fort Skyworth mostly because I'd like the name. Don't worry, we'll have more bases soon enough.

If you questions or comments or anything I'd like to hear them. I'd also like to know the name of a program that saves video files. I'm using the free version of FRAPs, which only records half a minute of video. Once I get my hands on a better recording program I'll post a dogfighting video on Youtube to show you how terrible I am, okay?)

Hah first thoughts: Oooh I am flying a skyranger, this should be nice and safe, I might just survive a while. Then it hit me that skyranger was apparently just the name of the craft :p Anyways I am kicking some serious sectoid shins right now, this can only end badly for me.

I'll pour out some chrysalid champagne for my fallen wingmates.

I have never played this particular X-Com myself but Heavy Lasers is always a nice one to get, unless it isn't in this particular one.

Put Fikes "Booyah" Ambroski in please!

Are you playing with the keyboard? This game was before USB joystick/gamepad support.

I don't remember hardly anything about it. Good luck!

You could try hypercam. It's the only video capture device I've used and it works very well for its intended purpose. Might want to run the file through Windows Moviemaker though, the file size can get quite large due to the formatting hypercam uses.

Well, I didn't exactly live that long either.

Mouse and keyboard. This game does have some type of joystick support, and I'm sure that there are ways to trick it into accepting a USB joystick, but that'd be too much effort.

I was thinking about hypercam. I'll try it out and let you know if it works.

EDIT: Hypercam and Interceptor do not get along nicely. Interceptor likes to crash while hypercam is running. Ah well, you'll just have to suffer through another videoless update.

EDIT2: Bad news: We lost another fighter. Good news: Interceptor crashed on me and I forgot to save. The entire turn will have to be redone, but this time I'll be a little more cautious, okay?

EDIT3: Update should be out tomorrow. Things went really well, I think. I didn't manage to use the tractor beam successfully though. One time went perfectly, up until we'd reach the base and I realized that it somehow was destroyed. The second time my wingmen shot it down before I could capture it. Oops.

You could try using procaster then saving the recording. It's a pain, but it works.

Yeah, but then I might as well just be live streaming the videos instead. Eh, I think that I might fiddle with hypercam some more.

Jack "Euchre" Smith reporting for duty!

Craft suggestions: Reaver One, Hammerhead, Loki.

I have to admit: This game looks cooler than I thought it was.

So, I bought the X-com pack recently, and tried out Interceptor today. I can't figure out how to get to the options/save menu from in the game. I have to go to command prompt and crash it to exit out.

Also, may I suggest you spoiler your updates?

Hover your mouse over the top of the screen. That'll do it.

Yeah, sure thing.
