Nothing is really new yet, I'm just discussing what I'm doing on the server which isn't even open. I guess I could keep a small microblog updated on the OP tho.

Darkchaos disagrees with the changes.

17:49 - Darkchaos: Besides.
17:49 - Darkchaos: With a small player base.
17:49 - Darkchaos: Trade is pointless.
17:49 - Miauw: hm, he seems to want a bigger base
17:50 - Darkchaos: And B12 servers are cursed to have a small player base.
17:50 - Darkchaos: Sorry, but that's the truth. None of the servers I've been on had more then 6 players or so at once.
17:51 - Miauw: true
17:52 - Miauw: we'll see how it goes

Tell him:

1. I don't care.
2. The current server isn't going anywhere or changing.
3. I already know that B12 servers are generally smaller playerbases, which is why the bukkit server will be public.

Part of the joy of being a server operator is that you are the operator and you can do whatever the hell you want.

Although now I have to wonder, how many servers is Forsaken maintaining?  At least 5...

I had thought about that, and it would indeed be quite a lot of fun. That's one reason I won't be disabling frames and frame equipment. I do, however, think they should be special and rare, not knocked together on a whim and thrown into battle. It should hurt when your airship is destroyed, not feel like "Eh I'll just wait till my frame quarry digs out another 12 chunks and make two more airships whatever"
This was a few pages back, but caught my eye.
When my airship gets destroyed  it does hurt, and it would still hurt if i made it for free.
why? because i invested a lot of time building it.
The true cost of anything in minecraft should be calculated as Cost=Buildtime+Miningtime+Craftingtime.
so even if we take out the miningtime from the equation, frameships is a huge investment.

And that why you should not restrict frameships, but rather restrict the block breaker.
It's the most simple way to control frame quarries, and it only requires you to restrict one block.

If the block breaker is just expensive enough, UU generation is removed, and teleport tethers are restricted, it would make frame quarries much more limited, even to the point that it could be balanced.

Our ridiculously large frame quarry(it has 2 rows of block breakers from the surface to bedrock!) does not really mine that much ore, let alone diamonds. The thing that makes it OP is that it digs so much cobble, that can be turned to UU that can be turned into anything.
Without UU our miner would be much weaker. And it would have slightly less than 250 block breakers if the were restricted(or just required diamond pickaxe.... why does it only need an iron one? Eloraam!!!!)

Why would one want to make a frame quarry to mine cobble to turn into UU, when a perfectly good cobble generator will do a much better job? The only limiting factor is speed, which, like quarries, is dependent on the amount of breakers.

For the size and resources of a frame quarry, it'd be infinitely easier to put the breaker directly against a cobblestone generator.

In the current server I have Thermal Expansion which adds a machine to generate cobble from lava and water. Much less laggy that way.

I don't know if I'll ban then in the server I'm building, it will depend on observed impact and the eventual population.

From experience i can say that cobble generators lagged the server to oblivion more times than i can count on TN.
On the new server, i think that you will have to ban them, since the hardware demand will be much higher anyways.

EDIT: i just realized that this is a pointless discussion since you will be removing UU... so no need for cobble generators, therefore no reason to ban them :)

Still I'm curious. Are you talking about automated cobblegens or manually mined ones?
