In a hero situation, you do expect some kind of physical standard though. Like, you wouldn't expect expert thief [of the stealthy persuasion] to be the size of a sumo wrestler. (He may, however, be some kind of sniper. Physical roles too though, as those guys tend to be really strong, and surprisingly agile for their size... particularly if they DO make it to a heroic state. )

Breast size is one of those things that are *relatively* unimportant to the role one could occupy (for females as well as males, though males with large breasts usually suggests some kind of hormonal disorder or a bulkier physique). Admittedly, heavily physical roles would probably be accompanied by bindings to prevent supreme discomfort and injury, but that's more clothes than bodytype, which may lead to "I made a martial artist with huge breasts, but they never show up in armor!"

I do rather approve of one suggestion somebody made though-- the ability to change the size of the male "package". It's rather equitable in a quirky way, nu? =P

Now... a question that's actually related to this game:

Looking at the guide for setting stuff up shows that it supports controller-style input. How important is that? I've seen a few games that were very obviously designed for the controller, to the point where keyboard/mouse control was practically impossible due to some of the weird combinations required or type of interface used.

I find the keyboard/mouse controls really natural - feels a lot like a first person shooter to me with the default controls - left click fire, right click alt fire, WASD for movement, space for jump, scroll wheel for weapon swap, and shift key for alternate palette. The worst buttons for the setup as dodge and third-person-shooting mode (x and z, respectively) because they are in what feels like an unnatural spot, directly below the movement keys. I ended up mapping dodge to a 4th mouse button, but double-tapping a directional movement key will also result in a dodge.

So what is the system specs? I may be interested if they aren't too high... which they probably are as I do have a dinosaur of a computer here. I did spend a good bit of time playing the first PSO back in the day and the various rpgs for the genesis even further back. Needless to say, I'm an old phantasy star fan.

I played the hell out of PSO Episodes I & II for the Gamecube, and Phantasy Star 0 for the DS. That said, I shall wait for an English release.

Sounds like pretty much every single other F2P online game released in the last several years. :)

Does this mean what I'm afraid it does? :( (i.e. that my OS is unsupported)

Let me Google translate that for you:
"Phantasy Star Online 2 does not correspond to the OS of your computer."

Also, here's the link, if you want to hear how it's pronounced or whatever.

Like Guild Wars me and a friend have been keeping an eye on this game.  He knows enough Japanese to get by but doesn't feel comfortable playing a game in Japanese, so he decided to wait for a NA release.  We're both PSO veterans (him more than me, I joined shortly before the official servers shut down),  And we both played Phantasy Star Universe for a little over a year, followed by short stints of PSP.

My faith in sega online games was shaken a bit with PSU (oh hey lets release a promotional item into the main servers with a massive bug that deletes your characters when used! Woops!  Don't we test these things?), but it looks like a few years of mediocrity have got them making good (or at least good looking) games again.

In short posting to watch the thread.  All you guys ingame already have fun, and save me a ☼Rappy Meat Roast☼!

Daaamn. Why do developers hate XP x64 so much? :(

Does anybody have any advice as to how to install anyway? I.e. make the game think that I have an x86 system.

Wait, this topic. How did I miss it. I loved the first game at least on the Master system and actually played a bit of the old PSO before it died out. I had no idea they were doing this again.

Hope this gets localized. Looks fun and I don't really wanna fiddle around with untranslated menus.

I started playing this in the Open Beta.
I was introduced to PSO via Blue Burst and also played PS0 on DS. So far this has seemed like a rather large departure from the formula I'm used to, in both good ways and bad...

So yeah, I have mixed feelings for now. We'll see how things turn out as the game gathers updates.

I got that when I tried to install on my non-x64 Windows XP. Turned out all I needed to do was update from SP2 to SP3. *shrug*

I can run it fine and I only have a single core but my NVIDIA card is better so that might be why.

Hard drive space isn't a problem for me, I got far more than I know what to do with. It's the other specs I have to see, ram, vid card, processor, etc. And yeah I'll have to get around to buying a new pc it looks like. No biggie though, gives them time to get a US localized version hopefully. Since I wouldn't like playing and not being able to understand the menus or dialogue.

does the PSO2 beta client work for the full version of the game? or do I have to hunt down different game client?

I was playing the open beta and I've now played the full release as well and didn't have to get a new client. There have only been about 25 megs in updates between the end of the open beta and today. If you have a client from the closed beta then you will probably have to download a bunch of updates but not change clients.

Also just as a note that apparently character creation on ships 1 - 3 is currently blocked. If people were wanting to play on Ship 2, where the largest English-speaking population is, well, that's not possible any more.
