Ferengi conquered Caldonia and Malcor, what to do?

Retreat to Xerxes (main shipyard colony), forget remote colonies (for now), rebuild fleet, retake worlds
Gather remnants of fleet at new, prospering colonies and defend them until fleet is rebuild (Holsberg/Peliar Zel)
1, but spend part of money to mess up diplomatic ties between Romulans, Ferengi and others.

Always remember that expansion is achieved by diplomacy, not by the military
Starfleet's mission is to preserve the peace
Our ships are not intended to start wars, but to end them
We attack only as the last resort

Star Trek: Birth of the Federation Let's Play 3.01

...Miranda-class vessel, with registry barely visible on the hull - NCC-21264 - is shaking badly, leaving the last of stars in this part of the galaxy, slowly approaching a vast amount of deep, empty, black space. Whole vessel is shaking, and the warp nacelles blink with bright blue color.

"Are we there yet?"

Young officer shakes his head, and an old man in the Captain's seat sighs heavily, grasping on the armrests, a grimace on his face.

"Approaching Warp nine point eight, sir! We're dangerously close to-"

"Warning! Temperature of antimatter containment chamber is approaching thermal limits. Warp core breach in two minutes, seventeen seconds."

"Shut off that blasted piece of diodes!" The old man shouts as consoles start sparkling all over the bridge. For next several seconds, there was just constant crackling and crashing noises of the hull being ravaged by the stress.

"Sir, we're here! Right between Alpha and Delta Quadrants, in the year 2151!

"Turn on the transphasic particles generator! For the Federation! For the Alpha Quadrant!"

One second later, the vessel exploded in a cloud of purple and blue lights, and a ribbon of energy began spreading, slowly, bit by bit, separating the two quadrants from each other.

===

And here we are. Back to the beginning, when Humanity is just to start the journey into the stars, to meet friends and natural enemies, vast resources and terrible tragedies alike. This time, however, we will have the Borg turned off, as well as random events. That way we will avoid situations like this nightmare.

Speaking of random events - I just found out that random events and borg have different variable in the settings file!

Of course, we're still playing Vendetta mode on Impossible difficulty.

Well, stay tuned for the first post, and hopefully we will enjoy another installment of my Let's Play Star Trek: Birth of the Federation! :3

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As you can see, we again start near southern rim of the quadrant. There are two stars close to our home system. USS Osiris shall check one of them, whilst the other shall be visited by our colony ship.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Pretty much standard research layout when I'm playing as Federation.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Woah, neat! Two large systems with max.pop around 300 million, + one of the stars have dilithium. We're clearly on a good start there!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next week we find this system which isn't nothing spectacular, but, in a long run, we could colonize it. Sol began constructing two additional colony ships and an Oberth-class scout, but those will take a long while at current industry output.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Osiris is on a roll with interesting systems. This one is glitch in the matrix, as a volcanic world have desert image. We decided to colonize Tarsus as soon as one of the arctic planets there is terraformed.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Week by week we're discovering that we have plenty of living space around on fairly comfortable planets!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Derp, just look at this... midget of a system. Well we can be greedy! We bought spare parts for our colony vessel so soon it will depart to terraform Thelka system. USS Osiris will go south now, with it's 'end' destination being that single star below Sol that you can see on previous pictures.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's not that large of a system but it has dilithium source. We might colonize it later. Still not even a slightest sign of alien vessels or cultures.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Just ten weeks since we finished Warp 5 Project and we already have a colony outside Sol. Citizenry is beaming with happiness and excitement. USS Osiris have to stray from it's course as it found a red giant star just on the very edge of it's range. Naturally, we have to charter it!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another neat system and a potential colonization target. At Sol, we bought spare parts again and USS Alacrity A was completed ahead of the schedule. It will go 'north' and then right, and possibly meet with USS Osiris somewhere to our 'right'. As soon as we find a captain for it, as there's slight argument between the military and scientific departments who claim equal rights for the deep space vessel.

Preferably not in an Oberth, one of the first Mirandas would be awesome.

You can't be blamed for the actions of your alternate universe self.

...Besides, there are no Borg here for you to join.

I'll take the disputed colony ship.  Captain Jak Euchre is both a scientist and a military officer, so should be acceptable to both parties.  To appease the science community, I may depart the new colony after founding for a new command (one with guns lasers phasers).

Han Zoku still looks to the stars in this alternate universe. A military leader through and through, he requests command of a Miranada class destroyer when it is produced. His final hope is to command a fleet from a Soverign-class dreadnaught.

The command decided that they will sent Captain Illi Kor as the commander of the USS Alacrity.

Then three weeks pass without much interesting things happening.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Cpt.Kor reports finding another wonderful colonization target. Just look at those marvelous ocean planets teeming with life!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We have neighbours! Who would gess that this alone star would boast alien civilization? These aliens are fierce and savage, but if we approach them correctly, they could be valuable friends, or maybe even members of the Federation.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Few weeks pass and Cpt.Kor sends us reports about Vendikar and Scothis. Scothis is like twin-system of Vendikar, just with much more unwelcome planets. A transport ship has been built and will be sent to Tarsas to build an outpost there, extending the reach of our Oberths. As soon as we finish our third colony ship, another Oberth will follow.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As Fendaus and Aucet system aren't interesting at all, we decided to show a Radio Pulsar with description of it's effects.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next week USS Adams, an Edward-class colony vessel is constructed and, as an exception, commanded by a military captain. His name is Jak Euchre. He was ordered to take the vessel to Xerxes system to terraform and colonize it. After that, he is bound to return to Sol.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Cpt.Kor initiates First Contact! This race of researches occupies a system of several small planets, but most of them are arctic - which equals supply of water. According to our estimates, it will be able to support around 270 millions of colonists. As soon as two Oberths will finish chartering a nearby radio pulsar, they will be sent back north as the outpost at Tarsas system has been completed.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

USS Khartoum A, commanded by Captain Bob Roberts, is finished at our home system. Khartoum is sent 'west' to check the edge of the galaxy and then anything up. One day, he and Cpt.Kor with his two Oberths, should meet somewhere in the blackness of space.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Such excitement struck the hearts of our people when the distant Caldonians agreed for trade treaty! The shipments will take some time but, we're on good road to greatness.

At the end of this update I'm posting galaxy map. You can see that we have still a lot to discover!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

At week 25, we settle down at Thelka system!

What follows is few turns of terraforming and slow sailing of Oberths through the space. Nothing worthy of mention, really.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

USS Osiris and USS Alacrity are slowly approaching these two promising systems at Turn 27. Cpt.Euchre reports finalizing the terraforming of the second ocean planet at Xerxes, which means colonization will be underway shortly, perhaps in two weeks.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Whilst volcanic planets are pain to terraform, this particular system can support up to 275 million population, placing it quite high on colonization list.
Cpt.Roberts has much less luck in his exploration - so far he found no stars, aliens or even interesting cosmic phenomena.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another potential colony, if we ever reach it. Still, no other alien contacts. We're 'warming up' Chalnoth to our cause whilst Caldonians seem to be liking us more on their own.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

USS Adams finished his mission. Cpt.Euchre will be returning to Sol as soon as civilian officials will take control of the colony.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next week, Captain Illi Kor makes First Contact with a space-faring species called Cardassians. They seem to be rather unfriendly and territorial, so he was ordered to leave their space. As you can see, they too had been in luck with vast colony targets.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

In the meanwhile, Cpt.Roberts discovers this small system. We could colonize later in case we need anotehr dilithium source.
The colony on Tarsus will soon have enough population to be able to build something else than farms and replicators. We decided to build several databanks, plasma reactors and dilithium refinery.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another First Contact for Cpt.Kor! These aliens are quite skilled in propulsion theory, albeit they're rather xenophobic. I'm sure that with time we will break the ice.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Cardassians agreed to our half-year non-aggressio ntreaty. Whilst officially we're now living in peace, I'ver ordered some people to our intelligence databanks to get some internal security agents.

Just, you know, as a precaution.

Cpt.Roberts discovers Delta Vega system, but it has only few small volcanic planets and a gas giant - nothing worthy of interest there.

Starfleet Command Recruitment Office is bustling with applicants! Test pilots, military officers... where we're supposed to put them in?

At week 33, another transport ship has been constructed. It shall build an outpost to the west, so we can reach Blue Horizon system with our colony ships.
USS Osiris shall conduct exploration in that sector afterwards, while USS Alacrity and USS Khartoum shall patrol our border with Cardassians.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Week later, Malcorians refuse our peace treaty.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Two weeks later, just as the outpost leading to Blue Horizon is completed, Caldonians accept our affiliation treaty! We decided to send Cpt.Roberts of USS Khartoum there, in case Caldonians become our allies. Cpt.Kor and his Oberth vessel are still in Malconia system, on patrol duty.

Insert several turns of boring terraforming here.

At week 44, USS Osiris reports finding nothing in newly accessible western region. Thus the ship was ordered to Xerxes colony, for protection.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Week later, Malcorians at last open themselves for us. Trade treaty has been established - just as a colony in Tarsas system.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And week after that we learn that Cardassians aren't happy with that treaty.

Derp, this was boring update. Hopefully something interesting happens next time!

5.

Up to turn 49 nothing happens.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Suddenly Caldonians terraform 4 of their planets! Also, we start terraforming Blue Horizon. In less than ten weeks we should have a working colony there.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Just what I said. It happens at Turn 54. Also, Xerxes system already surpassed Thelka in population! Soon it will get ahead of Tarsus as well.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The next interesting event happens during 59th week of our expansion - we discover Ullian civilization, a race of telepaths and historians. Of course, we will be trying to form friends with them. Also, our treaty with Cardassians expired week ago, we will try to renew it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Apparently Cardassians aren't interested.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next week, Ullians reject our proposal. After some inquiries, we learned that they're already in a healthy trading relationship with a space-faring race called the Ferengi. We will try to find those Ferengi and see if we can't become friends, or peaceful neighbours at least.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Two turns later, Cardassians declare war on Malcorians, whilst Caldonia joins our United Federation of Planets! As expected, their scientific knowledge surpasses ours by years. USS Alacrity also sends us a sensor sweep of space near Malcoria:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We won't leave our friends like this! However, we lack firepower. As much has we would prefer the diplomatic and scientific approach, we have ordered the Caldonian Council to prepare for war. Their system will serve as our primary shipyard for our destroyers and transports that will be crucial in the incoming...

...WAR.
