All new people who wanted dwarves have been named.

The Journal of Hanslada the Sheriff

These dwarves... they know little about how to survive. They all stand around the wagon, staring at Fool's hammer, so I have to be the one to destroy the wagon to get the logs. Nobody has any creativity around here, besides Corai. I built a carpenters shop and handed Broken the training axe. He's the one who got us here, anyway. He's the one who's gonna cut down the trees.

The Journal of Fool the Hammerer

Well, here we are. We settled here across from the mountainhomes. The only thing we brought was my toy hammer. It's somewhat useful... but not really. I'll just use it to amuse people before I bash their heads in. Oh, good times. I may as well make myself useful and grab some plants from the ground here. Every dwarf deserves good booze, even if it's from surface plants.

Fool was later found missing an arm and his blood spilt on the grass beside him. There have been sightings of alligators in the river, so it is suspected that they are the culprite.

The Journal of Broken the Manager

It's my fault... it's all my fault. I'm the reason we had to flee from paradise. I'm the reason we're all going to starve. I'm the reason Fool had to be eaten by an alligator. If it weren't for Hanslada, I would have jumped into the river by the carp.

The Journal of Corai the Architect

Hm... the first things we're going to need here are walls and farms. I guess I'll build the walls.

The Journal of Kosoth the Broker

Well, now that Fool is dead, I may as well pick up his job. All we've got so far is a wild strawberry seed.

The Journal of Nix the Scribe

Meh. I'm hunger. I think I'll just milk this cow and make some cheese for myself. I'll brew something too. Another alligator chased me when I went to put the barrel and cheese back in the stockpile. Luckly, I managed to escape. I hope Corai finishes the walls soon, this wilderness is not made for spoiled dwarves.

The Journal of LightningFalcon the Doctor

Wooh! That was close. I went to take a drink and a carp almost pulled me in by the beard! We've got some spare wild strawberries, so Broken told me to create a plot to plant them in.

The Jounal of Nix the Scribe

Everyone's hungry in this fortress. Despite LightningFalcon making a plot, our only seed left is still growing. Seeing the food shortage, I slaughtered three cats. This should hold us over for a while.

The Journal of Corai the Architect

I felt safer fishing for turtles instead of near the carp infested river. Once they leave, I might head that way. For now, I'm sticking to the lakes.
I'll draw a sketch of our settlement thus far.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Once the bedrooms are complete, it will form a box around the center, leaving 3 rooms for things such as a dining room which can then be filled in by incoming nobles.

This is the end of Spring. Hopefully, things will begin to pick up.

Diary of Broken, Leader of the noble empire:

Poor Fool.
I will miss. He was a funny guy, always joking and getting in little troubles. He solved all disputes in the court with his
charm and his little hammer. The queen liked him a lot as well.
I am going to miss her too.
Anyway, [Mandated] to make a wooden axe. When the others asked why, i told them that the trees will be intimidated by it and surrender
their logs whithout figthing.
Apparently, it worked. I aproached an old tree and [Mandated] him to surrender. It inmediatly falled dead. Good.
The next step is making a coffin for Fool. Clearly, a wooden casket is inaproppiaty for a noble (actually, for any dwarf),but i guess it
will do until we have some stone.

For now, the soil resist all my attemts to [Mandate] surrender. I guess we will need a pick to scare it.

The Journal of Hanslada the Sheriff

Joyous day! Fool's son, Fool Jr., has arrived. He tells us that he bring knowledge or organizing and the spear. Along with him came his Wife, Dishmab the Fish Dissector and his two-year-old son, Sibrek. Junior, as we've decided to refer to him to prevent confusion, says that his family was chased out of the capitol for association with Broken. Some other refugees include: Monom Nolvabok, the Nurse and compenent swordsdwarf; Zulban Mozibathel the Ranger; Solon Itembat the Clother; and Reg Dodoklimul the Fisherdwarf. We will have to execute these peasant refugees, and we'll take a vote on the rest of Junior's family.

The Journal of Junior the Assistant Manager

The loss of my father has taken a toll on me and my family. They promise a mighty monument to him, but as of yet, the main fortress is still missing two exterior walls, the bedrooms are incomplete, the workshops are outside, and we're on the verge of starvation. Yes, we're passing by just fine, but if anything happens to LightningFalcon, we're doomed.

The Journal of Corai the Architect

Building update: Two exterior walls are completed, every necessary plot is built, and the bedrooms are half finished. we've decided to make the bedrooms into a hallway instead of a box to accomidate for more dwarves.
Map thus far:

The Journal of Broken the Manager

We have some matters to deal with. First off, what are we going to do with noble families? can their loved ones be trusted, or should we consider them spies? For now, our verdict is that they will live among us, hopefully developing skills necessary to the upper class. Second, what shall we do with the peasants that are designated for execution? So far, we do not have an execution chamber and we simply leave them to go hungry or quenche something's hunger by what we've named the River of Horrors. We could construct different ways for the peasants to have... unfortunate accidents (http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Unfortunate_accident) of their own. I'll put Corai in charge of the construction of execution chambers.

The Journal of Nix the Scribe

I can't wait till they build an office. I desperately need to count things! Right now, we have a vary vague idea of the stocks in the fortress.

The Journal of Corai the Architect

We've got to sacrifice these peasants to Armok. I can't stand watching them at the side of the river, even if they are slowly starving to death and risking their life to the beasts within it. I was planning ideas of some chambers to build. Diving boards? Drowning rooms? Construction faults? Angry beasts? Hm... I'll have time to think about it.

I say that we must capture and alligator (preferably the one that ate fool) and create a death pit.

Sadly, the alligator moved off the map, although other creatures could also serve well.

Diary of Nix:

Well, this is certainly a fine place.  Full of leathery demons that want to chew us all to bits, but other than that, it's fine.

In other news, I've actually had to do physical labor!  Can one believe it?  I know that one must make use of whatever talent and skill one has, but butchering kittens is...ergh.  I did not have to use my intellect, it was just bloody.

I do hope to get that office soon.  Counting things may not be exactly invigorating for the mind, but at least it gives me something to do, without having to spill feline blood.

The Journal of Corai the Architect

Apparently Fool got eaten by a alligator recently, I havent been listening to the others gossip. About time, that fool was a waste of life. Every hammerstrike the idiot done back at the mountainhome was one less dwarf we could had used for something IMPORTANT. Like building walls. Unforunatly his son is here to replace him. I just hope he is smarter then his dimwitted suicidal father.

Yep, I am going with a A-hole character this time. You know I dont hate you Fool.

The Journal of Nix the Scribe

I finally set Fool in his casket today, although its in less than ideal situations.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Journal of Broken the Manager

I hated seeing those prisoners go to waste, so I told them all to fish to provide food for the outpost.

The Journal of Corai the Architect

The bedrooms are finished. The merchants arrived, too. We couldn't let them pass peacefully, but we also couldn't attack them because of their military escorts. They seem to not realize we're wanted for the murder of the king. Perhaps they've yet to drop by the capitol. To fix this, we built walls around the depot. Good luck getting out!

The Journal of Broken the Manager

I see the prisoners are successful in the catch! Keep up the good work, fellas. You make great slaves.

The Journal of Kosoth the Broker

A merchant went stark raving mad and his yak went beserk today. The other merchant and his horse have been struck by melancholy. The Yak attacked a speardwarf who was in there too and was killed. Hopefully, their death will come quickly.

The Journal of Broken the Manager

Well, the prisoners no longer seem to be starving, that's odd. And the fish is gone too... um.

The Journal of Hanslada the Sheriff

Broken seems to be plotting against us. He instructed the prisoners to fish for themselves about a week ago. This will set back our starving tactics a few weeks. We're going to have to keep an eye on him.

The Journal of Kosoth the Broker

The liaison insists to speak with me, so I have succumed to his persistance and I am now making trade agreements for next autumn. I doubt they'll be coming back... We've begun to dump water into the trade depot to flood them in. Once we get our hands on some metal, we can begin mining and then building mechanisms for traps. "I look forward to our meeting next year. Our fortunes rise and fall together." Blah! We'll see about that.

The Journal of Corai the Architect

Those Armok forsaken toss-pots are immortal! They won't die in that bloody depot (literally). We've finished the bedrooms, and we've begun construction on a second depot room in case of more prolonged death sentences.

The Journal of Kosoth the Broker

The merchants finally died today. We're clearing our the depot now. Happy new year, you birdbrained imbeciles!

The Journal of Broken the Manager

The fortress attracted no refugees this season, probably because most anyone associated with us has fled.

The Journal of Junior the Assistant Manager, Honorary Miner

The caravan left plenty of picks, supplies, and anvils to gather stone and ore. Now, we shall be able to create mechanisms for traps! But just as we began, we encountered a problem... there is an aquifer. We will have to do some research to figure out how to get past this body of water.

We've struck hematite! Once we find a power source, we should begin rolling out iron and possibly steel like nobody's business!

The Journal of Monom the Nurse, Honorary Miner

We've figured out what we'll do. We're going to dig out a column of earth to drop down over the aquifer, creating a path for us to travel. In other news, a pack of dingos have arrived at the outpost. Maybe we can take advantage of our mechanisms to build some cage traps...

Monom later drowned in a cave-in caused by the making of the aquifer.

The Journal of Junior the Assistant Manager, Honorary Miner

Although I will miss Monom (glad it wasn't me, and I refuse to continue work on the column), my wife has given birth to a baby boy! We must complete a monument to his grandfather. I cannot stand leaving him in that forgotten coffin.

The Journal of Kosoth the Broker

Looks like the Tree-Huggers United sent in the Greenie Train! All aboard who want to live the life of trees, plants, cannibalism, and more trees! We'll just steal their stuff, leave them to die, and ignore their liaison. I'm sure he's pissed that this side of the River of Horrors is literally barren of trees.

The Journal of Broken the Manager

I sit here, alone in my room, writing this to you. This may very well be the last thing I write. As the elven caravan was arriving, we were attacked in an undead siege. They attacked from all directions. The outpost erupted into chaos. Hanslada was the first to die, and Junior soon followed, then Corai, Nix, and everyone else, including the elves and dingos followed suit. Dishmab, Junior's wife, whilst carrying the newborn, managed to evade the phantasmata for more than a week. Sadly, she had to fall to the corpses. I've become thirsty now. There's not much time for me.

I will include the fall of the fortress, if it does, in the next installment.

The Journal of Broken the Survivor

I've decided to tear down the floor and walls that do not protect to maximize my resources. By my count, I should have 4 extra beds, and 57 logs and a 3 by 19 open space (minus a spot for a bed) when I'm done. I need to sleep some. I will prepare in the morning.

I woke up hungry and dehydrated. I may have to make a break for the stockpiles. I will most likely not survive, so farewell. For a time, I felt as if we could thrive again, but now, it is impossible. I, the survivor, was the reason we fled, and now I am the reason everyone is dead. I do not deserve this. If I die, it will be just. Just know I died fighting for my life and for revenge for my friends.

If anybody wants to view the carnage, I can post a save of the file.
Morale of the story: dwarves deserve to live safely underground, not in an open aboveground structure where they are susceptible to alligators, trees, and undead sieges.

BTW I checked legends, and it turns out the actual king of the civilization is a vampire. How ironic :D
