The Silent City: A Forum Adventure
« on: July 02, 2012, 02:52:08 pm »

The train rattles as it exits the tunnel and goes out into some industrial park. There is no stars out, or even a moon. You are sitting alone on a window seat. The carriage, and the others, are completely empty. You consider some things. Memories, things you did or did not do, loves, hates... That kind of stuff. You fell asleep on the subway train, recently, and have missed your stop and made a full circuit into the city again, which made you completely late in almost every fashion. The time is around ten PM. You are relatively annoyed.

Who are you?

Name:
Gender:
Age:
History: What happened to you before this?
Items: Remember, don't put "Massive machine gun" or "Map for the whole forum adventure". Four items, including a way to carry them all.

Name: Bob Rupert Robertson
Gender: Male
Age: Mid-thirties
History: Standard American middle class background. Went to college, partied a lot, got an MBA, got a job, got a wife, got promoted, got kids, shifted sideways, started drinking, got fat, got divorced, stopped drinking, regained close to high school athlete physique. Always kind of had a thing for guns and zombie apocalypse survivalist stuff.

Items: A roller case, with a few day's worth of clothes, a computer with accessories, a small handgun with ammunition, and a bunch of work documents. You know, standard businessman with hero-fantasy stuff who rides public transport a lot.

Leaning your head against the window, you think about work and going home. Your boss was really pushing you today. Got really pissed off by the end of it, he said you weren't working hard enough. You hate your job sometimes, but it pays. Well, at least you're going home, buying tickets to Japan, out of the city, just relaxing for a few weeks. The train rattles to a stop just before you would expect to be home. Whatever train station you are at, it's completely empty of human life. An escolator with a ramp (Thank God) leads upward, to the north. The sign on the station says that it's Kensington Station. What the hell is this?

A do doo marks an incoming announcement. "We are sorry, but the Green Line has been shut down." A computer. You have a sudden feeling of loneliness. "Please exit the train, and ask your local customer service station for alternate routes to your destination. Have a nice day!"

That's why I didn't specify what we were looking for, this way we have higher leverage in rolls.

(I won't be using rolls except for combat. YOU ARE UNDER MY COMMAND MUHAHAHAHAHAH)

You step off the train and walk up the ramp, up onto the street. There is an unusual quiet to the streets, much more then you'd expect at 11pm on a Friday. Right, you think, just have to find a cab. You wait a while for a cab to come down the street to pick you up. After ten minutes, you guess that it's a worthless effort since you haven't even seen a single car. You think about your options. Well, you're at tenth and avenue, thus meaning you could go to the subway station ten blocks north. If that's not an option, you could just wait for a bus, but you aren't sure if that's such a good idea considering how utterly deserted the place is. Maybe you could go to a hotel or something to go to sleep there?

You decide the best course of action would be to find out why the Green Line is closed. You stand up and walk back down to the subway, and search around for someone. You eventually find a small metal stall marked "Customer Service Station" which seems to have an open door. Fuck. You can't tell what exactly is inside, due to the glass, but you could walk in through the door.

Challenge accepted. Search the cab for anyone inside or any hints of whats going on, also check our phone for any news reports (if we lacked a phone we must really suck at our job).

You know what? Screw that. I am the voice of our common sense, and I'm always right.

We're getting too old and tired to be running around solving mysteries. Especially pointless mysteries, like why the trains aren't running.

Action: Let's just find a hotel and crash for the night.

Problem, hotels tend to reek of "filth" and that tends to attract zombi- Nothing.

EDIT: Also we need as much data as we can get before the GM sends death towards us.

You judge pros and cons. Cons, you really don't care about the subway being shut down to actually look in a place you aren't supposed to be in anyway, and you really need to get some sleep anyway. Pros, like it or not, something weird is going on.  You were talking to people two hours ago, and now everyone is just gone. You need to find out what's going on, and whatever is in that room may help. You decide to head into the stall.

The interior is a mess of fallen papers, tossed away memorilia and broke things. It looks like someone  tried to take everything of value under five minutes without a real understanding of what was important. Whatever you wanted to find, you won't find it here. You take out your IPad and check the news reports. Usual nonsense, nothing like "Zombies have taken over the Earth in less time then it takes most people to get up out of bed on a Sunday", but there hasn't been any updates or comments since the time you left work.

Did you really sleep through the end of the world or something? None of this gels.
