$20+ is steep for an alpha.

It definitely is steep. However, I haven't seen many(any?) bugs and it has a ton of content already. It seems a lot more like a beta to me, other than some weird stutters that occur occasionally(GTX 690).
I'm not saying you should buy it, but I am saying that I would recommend it before spending money on a kickstarter that won't even be at this stage for another year or two.

Edit: I have a couple of keys but I am saving them for patient gamers who don't dismiss games in the first 30 mins or who don't understand what alpha/beta means.

I played prior to 0.6 and there wasn't a whole lot to do. It looks very nice, but needs considerably more content. I'll keep an eye out for video playthroughs, but I can't sink money on it now.

Glad to see they're making progress on this, it looks spectacular from the screenshots I've seen to date.  Held off on trying the alpha until now (I first became aware of this just as they hit those multiplayer bugs, and wanted to wait a couple of iterations until they got those mended).  Downloading the 0.53 alpha now, just to see what it's like.  Might back via Paypal if I find it as promising as I suspect I'm going to.  :)

0.53 is junk and not representative of 0.6 at all unfortunately.

I am not sure what exactly you are talking about. You don't generate an adventure map. The adventure mode is on a carefully crafted continent and I have played through the first 35-40 missions without any crashes. If that is what you are talking about, you should re-download as you might have a corrupted file or two.
If you are talking about generating a random world for the build mode then there are no NPC or story elements so I don't know what would have crashed.

There are a few dozen missions to do but more than that is harvesting, hunting, crafting, base building and more to do in this version. There is supposedly already a ton more stuff in the next major release but there will most likely be a bug patch first.

In the (very) short time I've played 0.53, it's quite pleasant running around and following some of the basic story missions.  Couple of minor bugs and glitches encountered, but nothing I wouldn't expect (died during a side mission - defending a position from a horde of OH MY GOD HUGE creatures - and upon reviving was unable to either continue the mission or to reject it, leaving me with a mission entry in my journal).  Hitboxes on trees seem to be a bit woolly, but I assume that's because it's expecting you to target the centre of the (full tree's) hitbox, rather than the trunk (which might be off to one side of that centre).  Controls in general quite good.  Digging windy little tunnels can get a bit camera-twitchy, but that's what I was trying to test, so as expected!  :P

No, you are 100% right! Story mode is the one that doesn't need a seed. Adventure is broken but Build mode works fine. I suggest story mode though. Sorry about being wrong and thanks for making me go back and double check.

Oh ok no worries man, yea i thought it was working cause their dev log says they included a random adventure map generation, guess it wasn't setup but i was interested :P

Sadly i was eagerly waiting for that sandbox adventure mode... but i cant seem to start a new map, everytime i end up in a crash... null exeption, devs knows it, it is because the game tried to move a NPC that is not existant yet? or has been deleted for some obscure reason, will need a patch to test that mode on, BUT! on the otherhand, the story mode map and everything relate, well maybe beside the story and related quest got a nice overhaul and is refreshing.

Also... might be exploitish but your NPC followers seem to be invicible, aggro a mob and hide behind your meatshield? rince repeat. Death now has repercussion and need the use of a stimpack like items, wich wasnt the case a few version ago, no more bash revive, bash revive tango with bigguer monster.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?
