Help! I hit my first adamantine vein!

Im not sure what to do, can you give me tips / advice?
It is not surrounded by lava, and easily accesable.
As the veterans, can you tell me what to do for safety?
I have a QUITE crappy military, and if i breach HFS, what should i do?

Dig out the entire thing. It's mad valuable and makes amazing weapons.
Nothing bad could possibly come from it, fo sho.

That was me :D

Anyway, there are some good tips coming from that... What I personally did was just made sure to avoid the 2*2 square in the middle, and mine only the little bits off to the side

Burrow all your dwarves around the vein, that they might worship it and gain the power of the mighty adamantine god as you mine it out.
Their health and happiness will increase tenfold, and your fortress shall experience a massive rise in fertility during the Festival of Adamantine. Which may or may not be a good thing, depending on your FPS...

I did the same thing with the festival of hiding in the dining room from those big scary goblins
