As far as I'm concerned, there can never be just one "best" film. I'm a cinephlie with Casanova's syndrome: I love many films, each in a different way, and while I do have temporary favourites, I always enjoy revisiting the old ones.

Currently I'm enamoured with everything that Michael Nyman made music for, most of all Jane Campion's The Piano.
The acting is fantastic, the music is hauntingly beautiful, the story grabs your heart, while the symbolism tickles your brain. If you're in a melancholy/contemplative mood, it's bound to resonate with you for a longer while.

The whale movie was number 4.

Thank goodness. I loved the Star Trek movies, but number 4 had a lot of memorable dialog just because some lines were terrible. I need to watch them again now. I don't even remember what some of them were about anymore. Well, I know what I'll be doing this week.

Oh, another good film was In Bruges.
Even my annoyingly over-critical brother liked it, which is quite a shock. :o

I just watched Anchorman again. It's probably the best comedy ever.

Comedy, comedy... y'know, the only one I can remember standing out in my mind right now is Arsenic and Old Lace? I liked that one.

As far as comedies go, Galaxy Quest has a special place in my heart. Despite not being a trekkie or anything.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Is it because of Tim Allen?

I just remembered a movie I've seen a couple of times which is actually very good.
Once you get past the soundtrack, at least... King's Ransom.

Top 3 best movie picks of mine:

1. Toy Story Trilogy (oh come on, I'm going to cheat a bit and make this count as one movie).
2. 9 (The one that looks like a desolate LittleBigPlanet movie).
3. Scott Pilgrim (NERD RAEG)
