Whatever sites they're shilling, having links from prestigious or popular forums of a variety of sizes makes google think those sites must be IMPORTANT and POPULAR.

This is why even the ones who put the links in their profile work, because google bots will often follow profile links from posts (while humans pretty much never do)

That's not even the most insidious part.

You see, selling things from this sort of bump is too risky - google wille eventually figure out and nuke your ranking for good.

So rather than selling things, these sites just try to LOOK like they are selling things, and the spambots convince google they are legitimate, but there's nothing to actually buy - the sites exist solely to con potential "customers" into giving up personal information, like credit card numbers, that they can then turn around and resell on the credit card number black market.

There is almost always no step where these bots ever want something bought, they ultimately just want something to sell, and they aren't planning on getting it from us.

I think we could get samples from forums that arent as well defended, or dead.

I dont, actually.
I dont know many forums, but dead forums are usually unpopular forums, so i dont think they get as many spambots.

Then we gotta look in the popular and record as much data as possible while they still arent banned.

Linkz?

Bots native to Bay12 have a tendency to be preyed upon by larger species of Greater Toad and Threetoes.

I think we could get samples from forums that arent as well defended, or dead.

Well... There are 2 forums I know of...

That are run entirely by bots. You can't even register.

hang on... those bots that search for key words... make a forum of them, and watch them evolve at a rapid pace till they become sentient ad machines!
Bit late for that, really.
