Traduction to Spanish
« on: June 29, 2012, 09:27:29 am »

Hi everyone a friend and I are looking for a way to translate DF to Spanish but we are not sure where to look for the files that we need to change or how to open them if any of you can help us please. Thank you very much in advance.
Of course once we have finished our project we would put it here so everyone could enjoy our work.

The user interface cannot be translated. Sorry.

If you want to translate the creature names, there is a folder in the Dwarf Fortress game labelled "raw". Feel free to translate those - they can all be opened with any text editor.

Also it cannot be transducted. It is immune to transducification. In fact transducing is banned in most of the USA.

I'm sure Toady would include options for different languages if someone were oh so kind enough to translate the entire game, raws and all.
Or maybe not, I dunno!

I think Transduction is my new favorite word. I'm going to use it in conversation to see people's reaction.

It's possible to translate creatures and stuff, but not the interface, unfortunately.

Hello.

To translate the user interface you will need to edit the executable file using a binary editor. First, you should ask Bay12 if you can do that. Anyway, it is a boring and painful work, and the results will never be good.

You can translate a lot of objects, animals and workshops names by translating the text files under the "raw" folder. Again, a big work that you will have to repeat for every game version.

PS Please, excuse my bad English.

Actually for a heavier mod like that it would probably be easier to simply make any new changes in the raws done by Toady and then port over your old raws into the new version. (Changes in each version are available in the file_changes.txt file) Then it would just take a lot of work to set it up in the first place, but then relatively little for each additional version after that.

Also just a note here, but transducers are actually one of the new fronts of the electric and mechanical engineering worlds, being devices that convert physical things such as vibrations into electricity.
