Gnomeblight is just a worthless poison.  If you have any of it, trade it, if anyone's stupid enough to take it.

Not at all! Get some of it and dump it all over the hallway to your booze stockpile with some doors or floodgates to trap them. When they walk in, lock them in the hallway and watch as the gnomes melt for trying to steal your beloved ale.

A tricky to set up, conditional trap that only ever matters if your actual security isn't worth a rat's ass still qualifies as worthless.

Remember that you're posting on the Bay12 forums. There is nothing too stupid or inefficient to us.

Maybe, but deliberate stupid inefficiency tends to be more grand and spectacular and involved.  Like a complex trap near the booze stockpile that reacts to gnomes based on weight, hosing them down with water, freezing them solid, melting the water with magma, flushing the corpses out to a disposal site, atom smashing them, refilling the water and magma tanks and quietly waiting for the next victim, all automatically.

Gnomeblight is a valuable trade good. Either it has some medicinal/nonmedicinal properties we don't know of, or someone has a MAJOR gnome infestation.

You mean like to some races it's only a mild poison, and instead of causing death and dismemberment it has psychoactive effects like a recreational drug, or maybe produces a relatively safe pain experience like a decent hot sauce?  Would certainly make it valuable to races that feel it but don't die from it.

Now, if you could load barrels or pots into a catapult...

That would be a different story.

I build a tiny room with a forbidden barrel of booze in it and a puddle of gnomeblight in front of the barrel. It deals with gnomes automatically before they start scaring dwarves.

I've heard people assuming that elves have gnomeblight for this purpose, presumably due to the fact that elves only seem to process rope reed into thread. (Then again, I've also heard someone implying that it could be used for...just read it yourself...

Gnomeblight comes from valley herbs correct? Couldn't we make a custom reaction to brew valley herbs? Besides you can make a decent profit from gnomeblight. One valleyherb creates 5 units of gnomeblight (glass vial needed) which when sold in units of 5 you're left with a Profit of what 2000 urists?

The way I see gnomeblight is that it's basically a dwarven rat poison.
Makes sense for them to stay away from it.

Valley herbs make golden salve, kobold bulbs make gnomeblight.

Ah right you are. But you get the point. Either way we could brew kobold bulb to make dwarven lager or gin. Anything really
