Canada is nice enough. Our economy is strong enough, and our banks aren't likely to go under any time soon. Digital downloads of music are still legal as far as I know, and we have little internet censorship at the moment.

Pros:
+ Not a bad economy (can't tank because of one group's actions)
 + No internet censorship
+ Lots of land with varying qualities
 + Intense military (better equipment)
 + Highly tolerant population

Cons:
 - Can have extreme weather (central provinces temperatures range from -35 C in winter to 30 C in summer)
 - Policies are usually slow to change
 - Gun laws more strict (no concealed carry)
 - Housing is expensive in many areas
 - Quebec is anti-English. Do not speak it in some areas of Quebec.

Re: Canada. Do you get internet in the igloos?

Yes, but we need to be fast since our summers tend to melt most igloos.

Come to Aus! We'll get you a beach! Americans love beaches!

You Aussies can keep your heat and your kangaroos, I'll take a mild nordic summer and a sauna in the winter thank you very much. But yeah, Australia does actually sound like a really cool (not literally) place and I've always fancied traveling there. As far as I'm concerned, Canada is like Alaska 2.0 but with less libertarian mountainmen and more French elitists. Kind of like how Alaska is Finland with more conservatives and less death metal.

US, no censorship?

what be this madness? badness?

I'm surprised there is internet in North Korea. Or is that just Dear Leader's memorial site permanently displayed on all 3 computer monitors in the whole country?

If you're going to be a student that's a perfect time to have a taste of living in another country by doing a semester of study there if you institution offers an exchange program. You have to pay for the  study anyway, you have to pay for the accommodation anyway and you have to get a part time job anyway. Except you do it in a different country and as its an exchange program visa's and the like are generally very easy to get. Not to mention that you are at the point in your life when you are not tied down so much.

This would be a good idea if I wasn't going to community college in-state, for pretty much free thanks to the Pell Grant.
Still, I could always take a year-long trip somewhere with an apartment or something, i suppose, just to get a feel for the country...

Also, I have been convinced, Australia or Canada (in that order) are definitely going to be my choice.
Probably Australia just because it's more like Florida, and you can probably grow more stuff there too. (I'd like to get into sustainable farming as soon as I can. Which reminds me of Australia's apparently fledgling permaculture movement, which would be awesome to integrate into.)

So you've decided to put career stuff above political stuff? Because you seemed to be citing more political stuff before, and I've so far been pretty much unable to distinguish Australian politics from American ones.

Neat factoid: The typical acronym for the LGBT community in Australia seems to be LGBTI. They include intersex by default.

Really? Honestly, in my experience LGBT is common, but I have never once heard LGBTI.

The rumours of your inevitable death in Australia have been greatly exaggerated.

100% of the people who live in Australia will die at some point in their lives. Fact.

This would be a good idea if I wasn't going to community college in-state, for pretty much free thanks to the Pell Grant.

If the USA is so bad, why not leave before you use up the tax money of all those awful people to go to school?

Well, I think I managed to stumble upon the exceptions to the norm. Second time this week I've made an uninformed post about another country and been corrected by someone who lives there. I'll stop now.

You don't have to be bitter just because we're unambiguously the smartest, most attractive and best-smelling state.

I am contemptous of you filthy Victorians because you burn baby souls for fuel. And you can't drive.
