Also, tell more more about this... Estonia.
Estonia is a small Eastern European nation and one of the three Baltic Republics. It was absorbed into the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics during World War II along with its sibling nations and remained under the oppression of the pro-Russian government for several decades, until they peacefully seceded along with Latvia and Lithuania in 1991. Gorbachev's USSR was unable to prevent this due to his reforms and the weakening military power of the USSR in general. Estonia is nominally considered the least theistic nation in the world, with only 14% of Estonians believing in a god. However, a large number of Estonians are "spiritual" in some manner and do not identify as atheists. Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania all joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in 2004, much to the dismay of their Russian neighbors. Like many post-Soviet nations, the Estonians are not generally fond of the Russians in any case.

Oh, and Skype was invented in Estonia.

Hey, op, can you take me with you when you go?  :D

I may be a naive kid, but, hell I want to see the world.... badly... I haven't started college just yet (in the fall) but I plan on trying to get into an exchange program in Norway/Sweden/Finland so I can at least test the waters before I commit to moving there. At one point I was trying to apply directly to a Finnish university  :P but I didn't really get far into that and realized it would probably cost a lot (even though tuition is usually free for even foreign students) for living expenses, and I was broke then and still am now (even though I have a job now...). Any advice from you guys on getting into Europe as a student, or anything else for that matter, would be appreciated though.

To put it simply, Dwarf Fortress is the Black Metal of video games.

Eh, I did the opposite. I lived in France, and I moved in the US. Every country have its share of stupidity, in its own unique way. You have to find a place where you can deal with the local stupidity.

Good luck with your search though !

Central and South America are viable options. Housing is relatively cheap, too!

Or Australia? I know they have a pretty good green/permaculture movement down there, which is something I'm a big fan of...

-Lots of crazy, pro-American goons from what I've seen (foreign policy wise)
-Hot
-Angry racist types (though they exist in France and Spain as well)
-Very dirty politics
-Morally active video game censors (though Germany has that too I suppose)
-Deadly snakes, deadly fish, etc

on the plus side

-Cool accents
-Cool hats
-Pleasant enough people

There seem to be plenty of misconceptions about Australia around here; Our foreign policy goons aren't just trying to get in bed with the US, but China as well.
We're reasonably hot, but the southeast (i.e. the civilised bit) only rarely gets to 40 degrees C, and you get used to it. No snow anywhere but the mountains is a downside, I suppose, but eh.

The angry racist types are news to me; I mean, sure we have racists, like you have racists anywhere, but it's not nearly to the same degree as the US. I'd certainly not say you could characterise Australia by our particularly vehement racists.

The politics are a very different kettle of fish from the US; there are basically no differences between the two major parties; the Liberals (currently out of power) are the more conservative, but only slightly. There's a ridiculous ongoing debate about 'boat people', illegal immigrants who arrive on boats for no real reason; they represent a tiny, tiny fraction of illegal immigrants to Australia.

The video game censorship is going away come January; the one South Australian git who was blocking the R18+ rating left power or died or something, so legislation is going through to make that a thing.

The rumours of your inevitable death in Australia have been greatly exaggerated. Having lived here my entire eighteen years (five of those on a farm) I have seen a snake (outside of captivity) exactly once, and it didn't bite anybody, just slithered off into a bush. Spiders I've seen more of, but I've never been bitten; it's really just a matter of caution when you're moving stuff that's been providing shade outside for a long time.

The biggest downside I know of is definitely the cost of living; a small part of this is the cost of video games, but they're really a luxury. On the upside, pay is pretty good; I get more than $15 an hour for pushing trolleys around a supermarket, and once I'm 21, that'll be more than $20 an hour.

If you want to live in Australia without actually living in Australia, though, I've heard many times that Canada and Australia are the same country with different weather.

I'm liking the discussion here, definitely very nice when a topic you've made and posted in once makes it to 3 pages in less then a day. :P

Though, honestly, I probably won't be doing this for several years at the earliest, since i still haven't started college, have never had any kind of job before, ever. And there's always the chance that I'll change my mind before then... I'm debating between computer programming (because I fit the mental requirements almost perfectly), culinary (I am quite passionate about food, and no matter what will be doing it as a hobby and possibly a side job running a stall at a farmer's market), or biological/agricultural research as career choices, so I'll have to take my choice into account wherever I go...

Oh, also, I've lived in Florida my entire life, so I'd actually prefer somewhere a bit warm. It would be nice to see snow for once in my life, though...

I'll probably do my own research when i feel ready to later, but for now, it's nice to just acquire names and general info.

Don't listen to him, this is a trap. Canada is a deathland filled with Polar-Grizzly Hybrid Bears and stray daemons from when the whole nation was annihilated in holy fire when they legalized gay universal health stamps. Except for Quebec. We don't talk about what happened in Quebec.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

If you're going to be a student that's a perfect time to have a taste of living in another country by doing a semester of study there if you institution offers an exchange program. You have to pay for the  study anyway, you have to pay for the accommodation anyway and you have to get a part time job anyway. Except you do it in a different country and as its an exchange program visa's and the like are generally very easy to get. Not to mention that you are at the point in your life when you are not tied down so much.

That bastard had it coming, and you know it. Don't get all smart with me because it happened in broad daylight, I didn't get to choose the terms of engagement!

I remember because it was a Thursday. I never get to choose the terms of engagement on Thursdays.
