Red Dwarf II - SS13 Server
« on: June 28, 2012, 12:54:12 am »

I really hope I can make this work, I'll ofcourse need some help though. And it would be good if Googolplexed supported this.

Sorry for double post, but as BS12 is really buggy, I'm planning to make this code TG, or Goon.

Pretty sure he's talking about the fact that revivals of Red Dwarf have been tried several times, with each attempt generally ending in failure. Another possible fact is that there needs to be some kind of plan beforehand, and simply saying "I really hope I can make this work, I'll ofcourse need some help though." shows no plan at all and a not very well thought out attempt.

Besides, we already have an SS13 server.

The problem is that the SS13 server we have is stupidly RP-heavy. It's just not fun for a lot of people.

This. One could even say it is obtusely RP.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

I miss the casualness of Red Dwarf, compared to the RP-laden atmosphere of BS12. I mean, I miss being able to, without proper access to a certain sector, open a door panel and hack my way into the sector, and I don't get arrested by security due to tampering (especially if there's nobody to upgrade the access cards). Usually, the policy would be that if I get electrocuted (one of my most common forms of death if I lack a multitool), then I probably wasn't supposed to go through in the first place.

Basically, something that made Red Dwarf so great was just how random it was, and how RP'ing wasn't top priority all the time, unless everyone in the game agreed upon going a round of RP. I think a majority of the time, everyone was trying to get the particle accelerator to work and stabilize, only to demolish the entire station in the process a few times.

Once or twice, provided I slip through security/go unnoticed, I would hide inside a space suit casket as someone is about to head outside to work on the accelerator, and scare them before they suit up.

When I was on, (Note to OP and helpers: Try to have people with reasonably close timezones. 1 or two people every few hours that miss everyone else except in certain cases is not how a live server should work), I would check if the power was on if I was an engineer. Otherwise I would do Science!, and break down things I could break down in my way if I couldn't get to stuff I needed (unless there was actually someone on, then I'd ask them if they had access and could get me something), and eventually end up with a Mech if left alone for an extensive amount of time.

It was rp heavy yes but that is because there was never enough people on to really do anything , I mean they never had a chance when i was terrorist.. They would be drugged and their brains would be floating in space before they could even react

not much else to do when its so easy to win

Clubbing people with the RP stick when more people come on it isn't exactly the best way to keep people on BS13, though.
Theres even less to do with only a couple people at best, which is what happened to Red Dwarf.
