Bronze Colossus Fortress
« on: June 27, 2012, 05:36:43 pm »

So, I started doing a bit of modding again. My last modding idea was a fairly standard "play as a bronze colossus outsider in adventure mode" thing.

But this time?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

EDIT (adding another image and details):

Seems like aside from speed and no apparent natural healing, this might be the most fun I'll have with DF modding.

Could you give them orders?

I had once a trek of Dragons but they couldn't do any work.

"Can Kutsmob Pimplehate save the world?" was a legendary bone-bound book. The written portion consists of a 30 page essay entitled "Can Kutsmob Pimplehate save the world? authored by Kutsmob Pimplehate. It concerns the giving up on being a fishery worker of the goblin necromancer Kutsmob Pimplehate in Bristleseductions in 29. The writing has its moments of cleverness.

Dragons don't have grasping parts. Colossus do.

Yeah, giving them orders seems to work so far, actually. All I did was...first, replace the dwarven civ's creature definition to [CREATURE:COLOSSUS_BRONZE] instead of [CREATURE:DWARF], and second I changed the colossi from having [NOTHOUGHT] to [INTELLIGENT]. The second change is what makes them able to develop skills. Trust me, handing a colossus a pick and ordering it to mine is slow when they can't gain any ranks in mining.

That gives me an idea. Wonder how easy it'd be to mod in the ability for them to grasp with their forepaws or mouth.

Had considered making them able to fly too. X3

Already been done, by me.

But on topic, I would like this for my mod (link is in the sig).  Do I have permission to put it in?

Permission for what, the bronze colossus as a playable civ? Sure, wasn't that big a change for me. I still need to play through some more to see whether doing this will cause any complications or not. But as a simple a change as it is, seems like it hopefully won't hurt anything.

My main plan is to set up some armorsmithing to see if the armor will be sized right.

As I found out with my dragons, armorsize is determined by the creature that created it, so any armor you smith will turn out fine.  All other armors will add the tag small, due to the fact that they were all forged by smaller beings.

Ah, good to hear. Any other possible complications that might arise from this? So far I can guess that a complete lack of emotion might be problamatic. Plus if they don't sleep, and get injured...well, guess that depends on whether the "rest" function is built into the dwarf's data or the game's instead.

Having an injured bronze colossus that wants to rest but can't might be problematic.

You mean besides the slow speed?  (Major problem that I have decided to let go with my mod, just because I do not want them to be any faster than they are now.)

The things you listed are blessings to some people...  I am fairly sure rest is built into the game, but if the collossi have [NO_PAIN] then that isn't likely to matter.

If it gets hurt and there is a hospital. It will lay down and wait until someone picks it up, hauls it to the hospital then won't stop resting until recovered

Do note
SLEEP
and
REST

are two different functions
