16 here as well. Age doesnt really matter. If you are mature, then you are mature. If you arent then you arent.

As far as I have seen from "normal" behaviour, its all very cloak-and-dagger bullshit. People have odd tastes and their own quirks, they just hide them in order to fit in. Its actually kinda scary how a group can act differently than what should be the sum of its parts. Whetever you want to stay yourself or follow the actions of a group is your own choice. Personally I cant be bothered, so I just stay as myself. Obviously has some downsides, but I dont really care.

Dont follow Urist McScoopbeards advice though. People are people. Some are always assholes, some are assholes only in certain situations, and some arent assholes at all. Telling the difference is hard. Being hostile means you stomp on the people who arent assholes and turn the sometimes-assholes into assholes. Be friendly with people. The ones who are friendly back are the good people, and they are the ones that matter.

If you think that "most other people are horrible", then I'm sorry to be harsh about it, but you're being an unlikable jackass. As someone who spent several years being an unlikable jackass, you would do well to heed my experience. There is nothing to be gained in misanthropy. It does not make you cool, interesting, smart, attractive, or anything else that other people would see as good.

This is actually extremely good advice that's very topical for this forum. Given how many people here seem to think outright rejecting anything "Normal" or "Human" post here.

It's not funny, it's not cute, and it's not endearing. It makes you look like a tool. I'd name names but that's a bit inappropriate and I'm sure would derail this entire thread.

My own personal philosophy kind of borders that. But that's only because it's about "Do what you want, damn what others say about it. Just don't kill a dude," and my personal tastes are a little eccentric (relative to the population. Here, I'm downright beige!)

But doing something weird just because it's weird, and you don't enjoy it? ... Why? Why would you do this? What earthly reason would you have for doing this?

As far as virginity goes, don't even start worrying about that. Those things happen on their own, it seems to me.

As for feeling like you're the odd man out in the world, don't worry about that either. Everyone has a different opinion. Maybe you've got the best opinion and people are just being too 'mainstream' or whatever to appreciate it. Don't bother worrying about what people think of you. It doesn't matter what they think, what matters is that you are WHO YOU ARE. :) You can't change yourself anymore than you can touch a star, so don't waste your time trying, and instead learn to appreciate your own natural beauty.

This message brought to you by someone who ignored all the advice he gave, and has suffered for it. Don't be like me. :)

Thanks man, i dont really care about virginity, its just feeling kind of awkward when suddenly your peers start talking about it and they ask for your preferences about things. I guess i gotta find less "mainstream" people to hang out with annd stop trying to make myself a sheep again.

Yeah, I was the type to lie about it to keep them from commenting any more. And you don't necessarily have to find new people to hang out with, just be yourself no matter who is around. The good ones won't be bothered by your 'eclectic' taste, and the bad ones will become readily apparent.

This is the kind of attitude I was talking about trying to avoid.

Don't feel bad... I feel out-of-place a lot of the time, too.

I speak quickly, and I often repeat words or sentences I've already said like 4 times. I also tend to stutter a lot and speak faster than I think, which has led to my embarrassment in front of a crowd.

Most of the people at my school listen to heavy metal and "profane" music, and they think it's cool, whereas I listen to old country/classic rock music from the '60 and '70s, and people think I'm "behind the times" and "not cool enough".

And about the girlfriend issue, I (sort of) hear you. I myself have never been able to ask a girl out, and I've never gone out with a girl before.

And I'm probably the only person in MY age group to have seen the Man With No Name trilogy and the "Dirty Harry" movies; and me being only 13 1/2.

Oh, and I don't think a normal fork would be threatening... :P Just kidding

Wanderer, It sounds like you have terrible terrible problems when dealing with people, dealt with by blaming them.

Boy, you need help badly. Real bad.

Iunno, chill? "Normal" is an illusion, people are far too diverse to call anyone normal. Just be open and friendly, you'll quickly find out who you're on wavelength with and vice versa. Besides, if your situation is that you're about to start at gymnasium, then despair not, i was very pleasantly surprised when i started. See, public school is as plagued by dipshits as it is because it's completely mandatory. The worst dipshits will be filtered out when they realize that gymnasium is technically optional, meaning that you'll be facing more people who are there because they actually want to (a fact that gets further amplified when you reach university). That is infinitely more preferrable than the delinquent assholes that are endemic in public schools.

If not, then chill anyways! You might be positively surprised at the amount of nice people in this world. I know i was.

Psh- people are probably just as depressed as you are.

I dunno if normal is a good way to describe endemic, but depression is not uncommon.

I find that the most interesting part of meeting new people, getting them to a level of trust where they stop pretending to be normal (in case I am normal too) and really tell me the interesting things that they do. I've met some people who seemed incredibly straightlaced until the facade came down.
