Seeing as someone locked the thread (huh?), I made a new one. The Extended Cut is out. I'm downloading as we speak. Shame I only have 'fuck your face import' derpface-Shepard to try it with because I couldn't bring myself to do a second run of the game.

Ironically, last night I wondered 'hey, what about that ME 3 extended ending?'.  Looked it up, oh hey its today.

Flawless timing brain.

I'm actually mostly okay with them, to the point of playing the games another couple of times, eventually.
They aren't perfect, but I expected much less.

Now, brace for internet shitstorm!

The videos are AFAIK all you get from the DLC yes, I think there might be some changes based on who you banged and such and who was alive, but we're talking like character swaps and still pictures in the slideshow at most.

The worst thing is that I actually like that ending. Its pretty unique as far as endings go.

And instead its a punch in the face who wanted the new endings(and they really are better endings)

I mean, it's nice that they give you a glimpse into the near future. But the stupid kid is still there. And the whole Normandy escaping with your crew on board is awfully explained.

To summarise what's wrong with this:
-When you're running towards the teleport beam, you stop to get your injured squad mates aboard the Normandy. While Harbinger just sits there mostly looking bored. I guess it's sort of like the same problem as with the beginning, where the Normandy just hovered there so that Shepard and Anderson could have their stupid talk even though they could've gotten shot down by a Reaper at any moment. It's just this total break in the pace for the sake of saying "Yes, we really didn't think through how they got there.".
-Once the Crucible is armed, the fleet runs away to some rendezvou point. The fuck? What if the Reapers suddenly decided to open fire on the Crucible? Why are they running away? They were there to protect the Crucible, indicating it was in some danger. They didn't know what the Crucible would do either. What if it worked like some kinda Anti-Reaper rail gun that'd tip the balance but then it got ripped to shreds cause it couldn't cope alone? It's like it's written backwards to have the crew's escape make sense, but it just makes everything else nonsensical.

Yeah... that new ending isn't exactly motivating me to buy ME3 ._.  Or any more Bioware games, honestly.

I like how the synthesis ending has everyone become friends with the reapers because they glow green just like us! Forget the whole genocide rampage thing, they want to help us rebuild all the planets they destroyed!

And how it kind of implies that all the husks and other assorted reaper-manufactured abominations come back alive, or become new creatures or whatever? Hope you enjoy your new existance of torment and existential horror!

And how they've basically backpedalled from the whole "destroying all the mass effect relays forever!" thing since people pointed out that'd be the end of all civilisation as we know it.

I like how most peoples reaction to the whole magic space child thing were to try and shoot him. It fits in with the themes and narrative of the entire series. "Screw you and your choices, have a bullet because im Shephard, space badass!" And now they've made it so that literally dooms everyone and everything forever... Because how dare you not go along with this glorious artistic asspull?

The problem I'm having is that these endings should've been what was in the game from the start. They're still terrible, illogical, inconsistent asspulls, but at least they are actually endings. Rather than just a place where the narrative stops. It's kind of baffling that they put in all this extra work and money to "fix" the endings, and basically aimed as low as they could with it. Instead of actually making something good.

Mhm, well, I gotta say this does improve the endings squite a bit. I tried 'fuck off' first, then Destroy.

And, I, uhh... Really liked the former, oddly enough. I didn't expect to beat the Reapers with conventional means, so what happened wasn't much of a surprise. But goddamn did I die free. And there's hope for future species, too. Maybe the yagh or somesuch will finish them off next cycle. And the Starkid's SO BE IT was cool. Shame about the extinction of galactic civilization, though.

Destroy... actually, was perfect. I'm satisfied. Wow. I can't believe it. Even my Shepard lives! (Though apparently years passed before he took that breath in the rubble, go figure). Geth and EDI are a small price to pay for this stuff.

As hard as it is for me to believe, I'm more than satisfied. I'm positively happy.

They do, but Bioware said they wouldn't change anything that had already happened, so I wasn't expecting a rewrite. They were still stuck in the same corner as the (non-)endings left them.

I'm gonna mention this so it doesn't bite anyone trying to see all the endings. But don't go shooting at the Catalyst defiantly, it now triggers the refusal ending.
