Fancy Dwarven Cuisine
« on: June 24, 2012, 08:53:14 pm »

Occasionally, I like to check the prepared food my dwarves are producing. They have bad habits of making roasts out of prickle berry seeds x4 or really unappetizing combinations. This, however, is a first.

I count nineteen ingredients. How on earth? Is it permissible to use a roast as an ingredient now, or is this some sort of odd bug?

If a roast was an ingredient, it would list "roast" as an ingredient, not the items that the roast is made of. This could be a "planepacked" kitchen trick using burrows or something, or could be a seed cooking bug (most people don't cook seeds).

Just verified with test world: The burrow trick to create "planepacked" type artifacts also works to create 5+ ingredient meals. I made a 30 ingredient meal out of eggs brought on embark, plus the default meat and plump helmets.

This is bloody awesome. My next megaproject will definitely be an enormous masterwork roast with everything dwarf could possibly like, excluding bumblebee mead.

This is an awesome epiphany. Can it work with anything else?

Well, what all kind of reactions have multiple PRESERVE_MAT reagents?  Encrusting maybe?  Glazing?  not sure.  I don't think you can have kitten/goblin/elf/panda bone bolts, sadly.

So are we now capable of creating immensely valuable roasts, I've heard some crazy tales of 500,000 value roasts that were worth more than the entire fortresses wealth combined.

It's not really that unheard of, at least in 0.31 ,where you could make a  enourmous roast from embark milk.

Uric McLovesBumblebeeMead has eaten your roast. All others are left with plump helmets :)

Wouldn't it make a huge stack of roasts?
