Are megabeasts and Spoilers on the same team?
« on: June 24, 2012, 12:11:03 pm »

Hallo folks,

I just had the privilege of catching a(n adult) dragon. Unfortunately, the dwarven caravan decided that they weren't going to wait for his capture before setting off for the mountainhomes, so now the dragon is untrainable. On the bright side, I got most of my trade goods back.

I had been hoping to capture/tame a dragon and make it my first line of *fense against HFS, but since he's now an enemy of my civilization, I'm not sure he'll fight them. On a previous embark I pitted a giant against a minotaur and they just sat around playing poker until I threw in some trolls for them to tag-team, so I'm worried that releasing a giant enemy dragon on HFS may just mean I have to deal with one more fire-breathing monstrosity.

What do you think: is it worth building his cage into my anti-HFS fortifications, or should I build him into an execution chamber near my butcher shop instead?

The team list, from searching the strings (doesn't include "prisoner/caged/chained" prefix/suffixes):
Code: [Select]
Wild Animal
Undead
Opposed to life
Berserk
Invader
Diplomat
Merchant
Visitor
Friendly
Underworld  <--- HFS
Uninvited Guest   <--- megabeasts
Current Resident
Hostile
Tame

Yeah, but the main question is if uninvited guests party with the underworld.

Yeah, but the main question is if uninvited guests party with the underworld.

They do. FBs spawn in [UNDERGROUND_DEPTH:5] also known as HFS once it's explored, and are hostile to the locals. At least ig genesis mod they are, though those demons were only the mod's specifically added content which is said to battle with randomly generated HFS critters, but they had the underworld token just fine.

I don't think dragonfire will do much good against them. I mean, they're immune to magma right?

Dragonfire is ~2000 U hotter than magma. Still very possible it wouldn't do anything to them.

OTOH I have an thralling vapor infection atm, so I may not get to HFS on this embark! It's odd because I'm not in an evil biome and don't have any Forgotten Beasts on the map right now. I think this Giant Peregrine Falcon Fiendish Vapor Thrall may have carried it in.

EDIT: Also thanks very much Da Vinci for the team breakdown!

But if it's not an evil biome, where the hell that thrall came from?

I KNOW, right? I was alt-tabbed watching MST3K while waiting for some projects to complete, and I tab back to find interrupt spam, a dozen of my own units thralled, and the aforementioned thralled Giant Peregrine Falcon. The human caravan was thralled on the spot as soon as they arrived too.

I thought maybe I was wrong about the biome, but the fort's been running for nearly 10 years now and not a corpse has given me trouble yet. It's all just very bizarre.

Another odd thing - I thought thralled dwarves were supposed to be trapavoid, but nearly all of mine are chilling in the cage traps around my entrance.

EDIT: Yep, this fortress is done for. The dwarven caravan showed up, and I guess one of my thralled dwarves must have attacked them or something, because now my military are slaughtering each other. That's it for that fortress, I guess; it was Fun while it lasted!

part of the fort might have evil biome (before embark check F1, F2, etc. Next, not all evil regions raise dead. Dunno why people think that

megabeasts fight demons, I think, since bronze collosusses are adviced as a way to thin down the horde

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.
