Is... Is that what Europe wants from us? What exactly would make Europe not hate us so much?

Most of the dislike of American government and policies comes from a) the wars it gets into and b) the clear "we are above the rules" message that the American government consistently sends out (by defying international treaties, starting wars illegally, claiming jurisdiction over the entire internet and so on).  If you* feel you're strong enough to do that then fair enough, but you can't do that and expect people to not hate you for it.

*Non specific form of you, because "one" sounds odd here.

Obvious troll is obvious, but I'll play along. The 'fat, stupid, lazy rednecks' don't comprise a large group, as they primarily live in rural areas, which by definition have a much lower population density.' Beyond that, you're saying that all rednecks are fat (untrue), lazy (untrue) and stupid (untrue). Very few people (Probably few enough that I can count them on one hand with binary) think that Jesus wrote the constitution, and it's probably the same people who think that Obama is Muslim and simultaneously fascist and communist while supporting an ideology wherein he would be discriminated against, et cetera, et cetera. (Also, Nauru is the 'fattest' country, with obesity rates more than twice that of America.)

I feel dirty for posting in this thread.

I am an American, and I consider myself a patriot. I find my country and its systems dysfunctional, its attitude on the world stage arrogant and entitled, its art and culture disappointing as it descends into a dynasty of derivative works, its economic system Distopic in that it devalues anything that can't be monetized and invests power in those who accumulate wealth and allow it to stagnate, and one which I would not currently want to raise a child in. But it is my country, and I love it despite this.

I want it and my fellow American citizens to succeed. I think that in order to do that, we need to take a good hard look at ourselves, and consider changing tack before our pride backs us into a corner, or causes us to undergo further collapses.

It's the duty of a citizen to stand up for what they believe to be right... and doing so is vital to the healthy functioning of even a semi-democratic system like our own. If what your country is doing seems practically or morally wrong, is not criticism and dissent the highest form of patriotism?

This is now a bitch-about-Poland thread.

It's almost turning into my work place but then it's the Polish people that get moaned about here . I remember when a Polish supermarket opened in a nearby town and lots found it really offensive. Sometimes I really dislike my fellow Brits.

Probably Poles have bad reputation (at least my father who has been to France and UK) in oter countries, my guess is popular youth culture which fucking pisses me off, i have to deal with them daily, some of them are REAL big retards, it hurts my common sense and brain functions when i see such a retard. Why poles have bad reputation? Because our fellow poles go immigrate to other countries without knowing german/english/swedish or whatever language country has there, which leads to pissing of local population. Lots of educated Poles have bad lives thanks to retards who ruin reputation of Poland, its sad to me, because if i want to earn money, i would probably have to go to UK/Sweden/Germany because Poland, is totally country without future.

The Poles you describe are not dissimilar to a large part of our population too or at least we have similar stereotypes. Funnily enough it's often people that would be said to fit this stereotype that hate the Poles the most.

On the whole scriver is right. It didn't help that large numbers of immigrants moved to an area with almost no jobs at a bad time economically. Hard times always lead to nationalistic racism. If it wasn't the Poles it'd be someone else.

IIRC It's 83% in adults.

Funfact about Nauru: It was once one of the richest countries in the world per capita due to its booming phosphorus mine that took up half the country.

Then the phosphorus ran out, and they're now dependent on Australian aid to even survive. There's one way to get to Nauru: That's a weekly plane, in and out. A head of lettuce costs $AUD30. (~$USD30).
