We're gorged on nationalism. It's very fattening.

Eastern Europe seems to be a real hotbed for racism for some reason. I think it's because most of eastern Europe was taken over by an imperialist country at some point or another, and when a country is taken over by a foreign imperialist, you seem to wind up with the local ethnicities fighting each other.

I think it has something to do with the fall of communism and now more people are "coming out of the closet" so to speak. Ask yourself this, how many far right organizations were approved of by the Soviet government? Also, as far as I know, there's a fair amount of "Immigrants are being take our jobs and are being take our white womens, comrade!" over there. Heh, that sounds pretty familiar, at least part of it.

Meh, who cares about racism in eastern Yurop and it's effect on global politics. There are real issues we should be discussing.

So why are all you americans so fat?

Speak for yourself. I'm more on the underweight side.

All Americans aren't fat. I'm 6'1" and 145 lbs. Which is 183 centimeters and 66 kilograms, rounded up and translated from the One True Measurement System for all the inbred Old-World peasants out there. Granted, I'm not the most emaciated person on the planet, but I'm not fat. :)

On another note: How is it that all of Europe can't get along for more than ten seconds when basically everyone over there is pretty much united in hatred for America? Our money sucks, we're fat, stupid, lazy and idiotic, but we're still better than you? What's up with that?

As we have had 2000 years or so of competing over resources and land, being divided along lines of faith and political dogma, and all speak differnt languages anyway which makes it tough to not be suspicious of each other. When soeone does take charge (e.g. Romans, Nazi Germany) people bad together just to fight against them.

Re: Racism in eastern Europe.

When I heard that Nazism was outright banned in some countries, I raised an eyebrow. I'm the last person you'd call a nazi (well I hope), but I can't help but feel that's counter productive. If you ban a political opinion, you make them feel like an oppressed minority; their voice in government is cut off solely due to their opinion. Yes, I know the hypocrisy of someone feeling oppressed because they want to oppress people, but all the same it seems to me it'll just strengthen their resolve. Stupid opinions thrive in darkness; bring them into the light and they'll shrink. Well, hopefully; this particular stupid opinion had it's very unfortunate day in the limelight, so I can understand the fear of it gaining ground again. I dunno... I just don't think banning it will make it go away.

Oh, so you're like New York with more history? :P

But more seriously, I don't mind Europe. I really enjoy Europe. Everything there has such a feeling of history. But ya'll need to chill the fuck out about the whole 'Death to America' thing.
Wait. I just realized.
America is the 'Final Boss' nation.

Has no one thought about how much worse it would be if there was like five or six 'little Americas' instead of just the one big one we have now? In the future, when America finally falls, Europe will then have to deal with many more 'USAs'. Most will likely have dictators in charge. Granted, America isn't a good place as it is, but if there was six of us, and four of us were totally cool with killing people who try to say anything against them, would that be better?
Is... Is that what Europe wants from us? What exactly would make Europe not hate us so much?

But bitching about Poland is like the best thing ever. How can you deny us that?
Fixed.
Are you referring to a fellow with a really weird hairstyle?

Nah, im referring to how people in Poland bitch about Poland. Guess every time you ask a guy in Poland about Poland, he says:
"Taxes are too high"
"The roads are full of holes"
"The government sucks"
"Tusk should really quit"
"It sucks to live in Poland"
etc...
But, when Euro 2012 comes, everyone suddenly becomes a patriot and starts to be like "Poland rocks! Yeeeeaaaah!"
Except me.
I dont like my country.
I don't see why, as an Polish citizien, I'm expected to be a patriotic douchebag.
I'm not all that proud of being an Polish citizien.
You should be, Poland is badass

But Polandball cannot into space!

I'm pretty much dead set on moving to Europe sometime in the (hopefully) near future, somewhere far removed from all the world's commotion, like somewhere in Nowhere-kaupunki, Finland. And I don't think they all hate us per say, they just judge us by what our large (literally), stupid, fanatically religious and far right-wing vocal majority say do. And I don't blame them.

Don't kid yourself. It may have been in the fifties, but by the time the nineties rolled around it was demoted to 5th boss.

When there are several hundred bosses, 5th boss starts sounding less insulting.

A better question would be why all "discussions" on youtube devolve into someone calling Americans fat.  I've never seen a trend more universal.

This is now a bitch-about-Poland thread.
It's almost turning into my work place but then it's the Polish people that get moaned about here ::). I remember when a Polish supermarket opened in a nearby town and lots found it really offensive. Sometimes I really dislike my fellow Brits.

@Hanslanda -
1, Stop taking everything bad someone says about America as a personal insult. We're not criticising you as a person, we're criticising the actions of your government. It gets very ridiculous when, like just happened in the rage thread, a few actual, factual, actions is brought up, and you respond by going into ultra-defensive mode and being all "You just hate America" and then saying you won't even argue about it because "the other side just absolutely knows they're right". If you want to claim to not be a "patriotic" person/nationalist, then stop acting like one.

2, Stop exaggerating so much. Nobody "hates America". We dislike how it's government act and it's policies. If we can't criticise that without you hearing "death to America", then the problem lies with you.

In Sweden Nazism isn't banned (though "hate-speak" is, or "inciting against [group of people]" as is a better translation). They still feel oppressed, since the general opinion is against theirs. They still play the "poor us, we're all alone and that means we are correct" card, just like bigots does in the USA too. So it doesn't matter either way. If you "shine the light" on this kind of "darkness", they just pretend to be ordinary non-extremists and wait for the light to pass on by before showing their real persona again, just like in the USA.

Hah! You, dear sir, are a carbon copy of my spledid person. Of course, a copy inherently inferior due to being an American, but still.

Hey, if you were to suddenly split into six reasonably-sized Americas, then all the hate would disappear! We have a historical tendency to band up against entities larger than your average Euro-state. It doesn't matter what else you do or stand for. If you get too large to play our favourite game of bickering among ourselves on equal-ish terms, then all of our animosities are suddenly put off for later, and you're an instant target for the United European BileTM.
Look at Napoleon - such a nice guy. Made most people use the right side of the road instead of the wrong one, and still everybody-who-wasn't-French(or Polish) hated his guts. Or Hitler - built them roads like no other(maybe a bit too obsessed with cleanliness) and now he's a persona non grata on the internets.
It probably started with the Greeks messing up with them Persians.

I like the polish.

Mind you, the only Poles I met, one was my Japanese teacher and one was half-swede. :P

I encourage shops like that to open here! I would love more of them!

Beside the Serbian Butchers, the Dutch Supermarket, the thousands of Chinese and Vietnamese KFL supermarkets, the list goes on...

I don't think we have any local Polish supermarkets.

As for the Americans, I don't agree with their government, but 95% of the Americans I have met, both online and offline, have been friendly and articulate people.
