Most of the audio I listen to, coming straight (or by recording/replaying) from DAB channels, is .mp2, i.e. MPEG-1 (or -2) Audio Layer 2, as opposed to MPEG-1(/2) Audio Layer 3.

But when using a player that can't handle that slightly retro[1] format, I convert to .mp3, with a little ffmpeg-calling batch-file.  And I always save from Audacity (with the LAME plugin) in .mp3 for similar reasons, even though that also allows Ogg Vorbis...  (Which I should prefer, given that it's half accidentally and half deliberately a Discworld referencing name. ;) )

Interestingly, while at university, one of the suggestions given to me for a project was to find a lossy audio compression...  Ah, if only I had listened to that idea, I might have been the father of the MP3[2] revolution...  Well, maybe not....

[1] Despite both arising in the early '90s...
[2] Or whatever it would have been if the name for it had been my choice!  Might have been "LAF", for various reasons I won't go into[3]...  Not sure if that sounds better.
[3] Although, now I look at it again, it could have been backronymed to "Lossy Audio Format"...  But a "LAF-Player" still doesn't sound quite like the same desirable piece of technology.

I only have .flac digital audio. Same reason I only own vinyls, it just sounds sooo much better.

Im kinda audiophile too, but sometimes music feels better in WAV but im not able to tell why. If i could afford i would buy only vinyl, well if i had turntable though.

Probably thats why they are used with pentagrams on covers of Satanic Black Metal albums.

WAV's uncompressed, pure sound. That's why.

I voted other, because all of my favorite sounds come in longitudinal wave format.

Ah, anyway, I like uncompressed files like WAV for quality, and .ogg files when I don't want my sound files to be gigantic.

BWV.

WAV with extended metadata, and SMPTE time code compatibility.

Kinda offtopic, but why the weird font question mark in the title? :P

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Usually means they're running a system with asian-language support. That's MS Mincho, that font, iirc.

.ogg for most things, .flac where preservation of quality matters.

320kbps .mp3, followed by .ogg.

FLAC is nice and all, but my headphones aren't amazing enough to notice much of a difference. Its not really worth 5x the file size.
