Feed whoever is going to starve.
Analyse the dead flowers.
Dedicate the pollen to reproduction.

P.S.
It is too early to have humans, they shouldn't be an issue until the humans are aware of the aliens. I would feel it to be better if the human side was started discreetly, by another forumite, with nobody thinking it to be anything but just another alien invasion thread...

Well, discretion is kind of hard given the views and growth of the thread... and that was indeed the plan. The humans already have a HUGE head start on almost every single manner. I may be open to individual characters later, but for right now, I would like to keep the game as complex as it is without adding more to it. Complexity tends to kill forum games early, from my experience elsewhere. I will make a planning thread, though.

Anyway, night actions?

Improve underground farms, reserve flowers for other purposes.

You set about studying the Flowers.  You find that, unsurprisingly, the Flowers love water, heat, and acidic soil. They appear to require very little nitrogen, but plenty of phosphorus and potassium. You do detect a surprisingly large amount of lithium, boron, deuterium, and helium-3 in the plant, however. You experiment with several Grains of Pollen - not enough to impact the total supply - and discover that while it is volatile and contains a lot of potential energy, it is not the biggest producer of energy. Your best guess based on the elements and structures in the plant is that it has a form of organic cold fusion.

You have no idea why. While the idea of "find out why" appeals to Us, We find it more important to consider potential applications.

Regardless, the conditions for optimal growth are all easy enough to solve. The plants aboveground are off limits for the time being, but you can certainly improve conditions for those indoors. You extract sulfur from the soil, and otherwise set about making a fertilizer with the assistance of the Repair Drone while We remove the old insulation, and replace it with the full Thermal Insulation, using a quarter of the current supply. The plants are given each a healthy dose of Improved Fertilizer in their extra-large dose of water, and We wait in the Flower Chamber for dawn.

The morning comes with the discovery that there are only two Queen's Flowers. Both are surprisingly large, and a brief analysis of the dead Flowers shows that the strongest two sapped all of the life and liquid from their weaker siblings. Outside, you discover half of the Flowers have wilted completely, while the remaining five are severely stunted. You order the Drones to water and fertilize the plants, and pull the dead Flowers.

You harvest six units of Pollen Fuel, and note its difference in color from the Queen's Flowers. You harvest three units of Food.

Your oldest egg is nearing its limit of growth. You can sense two stages left before it must be laid or reabsorbed.

Your estimate of time for potential courses of action:

- Pollinate Plants. 1/4 Day
- Mount Sensory Array / Integrate into Computer Network. 1/3 day
- Install Defensive Turret / Integrate into Computer Network. 1/3 Day
- Install Armor Plating. 1 Day
- Explore Structure. 1 Day
- Eggs and Larvae. 1/2 Day [specify which and how many, as well as any modifications you desire for the larvae to adapt]
- Examine Biped Test Subject corpses. 1/2 Day
- Insulate the Nest. Slightly less than 1/2 day
- Something else?

We proceed outside and bore a hole through which the Sensory Array can be powered and integrated as the Navigation Drones consume a unit and a half of food each. While the labor is tedious, You are pleased to note that installation took as much time as you expected. You note that "pleasure" is becoming a more familiar sensation to You. After sending basic signals to the Array and receiving them back on the Telemetry section of Your Laboratory, We proceed to install the turret onto a section of the Earthworks that allows for full rotation and tilt. During the mounting process, however, a Drone stumbles into a pothole and is smashed under the weight of the Cannon We were building.

The Navigation Drones, still hungry despite their meal, work effectively together (as do We all, such is the Way) and fully integrate the hardware, as well as improving the software. One Drone in particular seems to have an affinity for reprogramming and stranger-fixing, and You designate the Drone as a Level 2 Navigation/Programming Drone. The work goes by less smoothly on the Cannon - while You and the specialist drones verify that the connections work, several links are not recognized. Despite the strangerfixing and all of Our efforts, the Experimental Pulse Cannon overloads and explodes into millions of pieces. You note that displeasure is also a rapidly familiar emotion, but take comfort in knowing that Our software was certainly not the issue.

The remainder of the day is spent pollinating the plants. You personally pollinate the Mature Queen with the pollen from the first Queen while the Drones pollinate the three Active Flowers. You also reflect upon Our nature, and use the dead Drone to feed the Navigation/Programming Drone. The remainder is used to map Our genetic code. Unfortunately, one single day of observation is not enough for You to get any Ideas on how to change Yourself and the next Generation of Us. You take comfort in the knowledge that until you can adapt your body to the cold, you can use your Mind to overcome it.

Night falls. We huddle around the Flowers of Life, and You note that several Drones - none in particular - have stood before the Flowers of Life and swayed back and forth. There have not been any Drones who have done the behavior more than twice.

Also, meta-ing a bit:

Am I right to assume the humans mistook our ship for a supply ship of their own?

If yes, then we can thereof deduct that they have currently no control with flightcontrol on Earth, who would certainly know where all their ships are. (Causes of contact loss could be A solar flare or just the fact that Mars and earth are on opposite sides of the sun.)

If no, the humans are pretty casual about aliens landing, suggesting this is not their first contact

I suspect that they treated the ship as some meteor or other cosmic rock and simply let it fall. Besides, there aren't that many of them on Mars and they are more interested in working than investigating a fallen "debris".

There's a serious difference between meteorites and incoming ships. They should have been able to spot it. Although that depends more on the look of the ships and their optical experiments. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that either our ship was a stealth one or Earth's telescopes couldn't see us. Otherwise we'd surely have been seen, and a meteorite actively changing it's course arouses suspiscion.

I think you worry too much about it. Besides, you give humans too much credit or over-estimate their tech. Either way, hey do not know of us.

The current Guardian system can spot all asteroids in the solar system of around a few hundred meters. I'm pretty sure that unless our ship was actively camouflaged or their system distracted/ blocked away by the sun they would have spotted us. But since they don't seem to have done so, that should mean they won't in the future too.
