You can manipulate structure but you cant change atomic numbers but something can up until 19. So yes you can make graphite.

You dig through the concrete mostly you find silica which is a god send considering right now your robots are massive mostly mechanical assemblies.

Mainly has to do with chemical situations, I am going to take lots of liberties with alien biology just so you know. Technically the Amino-acid ones have slightly better resistance in enzymes, because many things on this planet are going to have pure carbon breakers and their easier to make. But the pure carbon are a bit more easy to make and a little more robust but both of them suck.
