I don't think that there's a method to have above-groundness affect creatures. I had that problem with Orks.

(Speaking of which: should I change them from orcs to orks? Tolkien preferred the latter later on because IIRC Orcish would be pronounced or-sish, which doesn't fit)

Naw, Orc is how everyone remembers them as. Also, the word "Ork" has been sorta corrupted by 40K, so that might give one a far different mental image than shifty tolken orc.

Balrog's don't turn in to stone when they come in to the sunlight.
But could we do it that the orcs are weaker above gound then Below it?

I remember reading a thread recently that had some sort of syndrome that occurred the longer you were inside. Something about cave adaptation. The person was using it to make a race that suffered the longer it was underground. I am sure you could do something like that.

No, I really couldn't. That's all about, you know, being underground. I can't do anything with the above ground.

Well you could, When cave-adaption hits 0 BAM stone. Altho does non controlled creatures suffer Cave Adaption?

I'm speaking for Balrogs of course, altho. Would a demon turn to stone? Might work for trolls if you make them a underground civ or wandering critter

But underground critters have a tendancy to try and leave through the surface...

If you can't do so they are weaker above ground, can you do something they are stronger under ground and above ground as default?

I thought Cave Adaption was a number that went down when you were outside and went up when you were inside.

Just have syndromes that get triggered at low values of cave adaptation.

Or conversely give the creatures buff while it is underground and then they will be weaker when they are above ground

I don't think Balrogs turn to stone in the sun at all; they're quite too powerful for that.

Also, does cave adaptation ever go down? Besides that, there's the issue that all these creatures will be born/spawned with a cave adaptation value of zero, which would ruin them all. Trolls would show up at your doorstep turned to stone, etc.

It just wouldn't work.

Also, I'm currently working on a Sindarin language file BTW.

Balrogs do not turn to stone.

Also, I'm trying to work on Men, but I'm having issues in the RL. Totally on that, though.

No, I couldn't. I can't do anything at all with sunlight in any way, shape or form. The problem isn't with stone--I could do that in a snap--the problem is with the sun, both the fact that I can't actually have it interact with modding AND the fact that it doesn't actually exist in dorf mode.

Is that possible?

Yes, but you will never, ever see it--cave adaptation probably happens only to your playable characters. Even if it doesn't, it's almost certainly not abstracted in worldgen.
