Mary Sue Litmus Test- The Thread
« on: June 22, 2012, 01:40:02 am »

I was bored today, so I tried out the Mary Sue litmus test. This, unsuprisingly, is a test for whether or not a character is a Mary-Sue, which is an ill-developed, too perfect character.
I tried it on Ace McChance, my character from Sky Tower, and Thomas Harrison, from Einsteinian Roulette.
Ace scored 16, which is reasonably good, and Thomas scored 11, which makes him a spot bland.
So, this thread is for people to share their results and to get help improving their characters.

I did the one here for my character in Roll to Roll to dodge, Derm Hellbinder.

I got a 45 where 50+ is "It's probably a lost cause either way, or you didn't read instructions properly (some people don't do this, which causes freakishly high scores).  If it's the latter case, read the instructions and take the test again."

To be fair, I don't really think they had enough of the right questions in the 'de-sueifier'. Nor is the setting really that good for these types of quizes.

Kyle got a 17, but it might be lower, as there some questions I'm not frankly sure how to answer.

So the questions about weather the characters new abilities as the story progress, I had to check those boxes, but its a shonen action comic. Its what you do as part of the story. Character in abilities and what not.

Remember, every item is relative to the world they're in. If the premise of the game is to play anime half-vampire reincarnations of former US presidents guided by mythical spirit beasts to go beyond the impossible, they wouldn't qualify for having bizarrely colored hair, being a halfbreed, being someone famous in a prior life, having magical animal companions, being obscenely powerful, and so on.

As for me, my character in Ascend Sky Tower got 6 by being generous. My character in Einsteinian Roulette got -3.

Though, come to think of it, I don't think there was anyplace to mention that the one from Einsteinian Roulette is very frail and meek except when she goes voluntarily goes berserk and gains incredible strength and speed. That's gotta be a Suesign, right? :P

Out of curiosity, I filled in every non-minus answer. I got a 726. I don't think there's any possible way to recover from that. Help... Help!

My character in the Persona RPG got a 4, which is cool, I guess.

Edit: Retook the test later on in the thread. Its more 16, with a slight margin of Error.

Yep, there is just not enough of the de-sue questions compared to the first set of questions to be honest

Alex Vondgas from Their Coming is at Hand got a 12. WOuld have been higher had I not thought about the logic in saying that he is fulent in a language that he can only speak by calling it from a imprisioned and angry god in his head.

*Shrug* My characters seem kind of bland to me at times. THe grading may be a bit harsh.
