a request for a slight change in the embark screens

When you are selecting the items to take with you during embarking,   It would be very help to have a way to just type the number of said items you want in addition to the current system of holding the + down. 

for instance instead of holding + for 3-5 mins to get a 1000 bags of sand,  just being able to add a single one, then hitting enter and putting in a 1000,  it would be considerably quicker and easier imho.

Sensible. There's already a system like that for stacks of items (meat and so forth), so it seems like it would be fairly easy.

most of my embarks for what ever reason have have clay instead of sand,  and free bags

I can agree with this, I have had projects that I ship in all my material over local (for the color usually) and takes forever due to the amount I am bringing.

You can use macros and the prefix key (makes a command repeat) to achieve 1000 items from 1 item in 18 key strokes.  15 key strokes gets you to 991 items. I list the commands and the keys below. I use custom bindings so I may have the key strokes wrong. 

Start Macro, Prefix Key, 99, +, Stop Macro, Use Macro 9 times, Prefix Key,  9, +
Ctrl-r, Ctrl-u, 99, +, Ctrl-r, Ctrl-p, Ctrl-p, Ctrl-p, Ctrl-p, Ctrl-p, Ctrl-p, Ctrl-p, Ctrl-p, Ctrl-p, Ctrl-u, 9, +

There are a few others that come in the LNP.  Mine relies on the use of Dwarf Therapist as you can prolly guess from the limited starting skills: 2 miners 1 builder and 1 hunter, 3 peasants.  Not sure how I'd go about adding 1000 bags of red sand, but prolly someone else knows.  Sincerely, Knutor

I apologize, the tone of my original post was abrasive.  I only meant to suggest that the current macro system has a better method than 3-5 minutes of pressing +, and to show you an example of how to use it.

Knutor's suggestion of using the saved profiles is good suggestion.  I've added 5 profiles with just 1000 of one type of sand for you to start your embarks from.

I really like the macro that you showed me previously and it beats what i was doing previously with embark profiles.  i have several embark profiles setup with 1000 sand,  how ever my luck always seems to be that the one profile i picked was always the one where the that type of sand was not available.   or if i use the one which has all the type of sand in it,  i always end up with 4-5 thousand sand already selected.   And i don't think you were being abrasive.
