My soldier just bit a weremonkey.

Title. Will he turn? The monkey didn't bite him, but being the badass he is, he bit the monkey in the hand. Not sure whether to lock him up or not.

At least until the full moon. When the full moon strikes, he will turn into a full-fledged weremonkey. He will go on a murderous rage, and kill and slaughter every single one of your dwarves. Locking him up won't do him any good. He can easily break free.

i'm just kidding, i don't know a bunch about dwarf fortress

No, he's safe unless the weremonkey bit back. I'm not sure if drinking weremonkey blood will do it--take care to keep your water supply clean.

Do were curses work the same way as Vampire curses?
If he broke skin, he might have ingested blood.

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

This is the Dwarf Fortress version of "man bites dog".    :P

"Well, you see I was at patrol duty, and I saw this hairy weremonkey. And I thought if it bit me I'd become a Spider Monkey Dwarf (hehe, you know, long legged). Bu-ut it wouldn't bite me so I bit the weremonkey! Annnd, now I look like this."

I can't quote for squat, but this is very true. Credit to PTTG?? for this insightful comment.

You should add the [COOKABLE_LIVE] tag to... something. Monkeys, probably.

Nope. This guy is completely safe. Unless the weremonkey bit him and broke through the muscle layer, in which case...

Nah.

Give that dwarf a pint and a medal.
An iron medal.

Also, a month-long quarantine may be in order, just in case. I doubt it works that way, but this is DF...
