civ doesent work in fort mode (somewhat)
« on: June 17, 2012, 09:17:05 pm »

I just started modding recently, and after a few sucsesful minor creatures, i decided to remake the Kobold civ.

Everthing went ok, i made them intelegent, let them speak, and removed the    [UTTERANCES] tag so they dont maul other people. i kept them in caves, but they have siges now, and they can keep a town if they manage to take it. i gave them some new nobles, which all worked all-right. i made them civ and adventurer controllable to.

this is where i ran into problems. in fort mode, my kobolds wont dig at all, or cut down trees. yes, they do have the job as a permited job in the raws, and can use axes. And in adventure mode they become randomly hostile to people sometimes, and often lose companions during fast travel. Ive looked around a bit, and dont see anything that may be causing the fort mode stuff in the raws, and as for adventurer mode the only thing i could think of was the [likes fighting] tag, but i dont think that thats it.
Help Please?

1. Are they permitted to use picks? Are they large enough to wield them?
2. Are they still marked as [SKULKING] and/or [ITEM_THIEF]?

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I really wasent sure what the skulking tag did, so i left it. And yes, they are permited to use picks.

Are they BIG ENOUGH.

Kobolds as default are to tiny to wield a axe/pick. [LOCAL_BANDITRY] also makes them go IMURDERYOURFACE on random people.

Did you use the existing kobold civ from the raws and modded it? If so, I highly suggest the following:
- Make two new files, creature_kobold.txt and entity_kobold.txt. Use only these for your modded civ. Much easier to work in your own files, rather than the default ones.
- In creature_kobold.txt, copy/paste the DWARF race from the creature_standard.txt, then just change the appearances/caste to reflect the old kobolds. Use a creature tag such as CIV_KOBOLD (to differenciate)
- In the entity_kobold.txt, copy paste the MOUNTAIN civ from the entity_default.txt (should be dwarves), then edit it to make it for your CIV_KOBOLD.

Another way, though very time consuming but good to learn, would be to make both the CREATURE and the CIV from scratch, manually adding tag by tag, using the wiki and existing raws as guides.

Also, the default PICK has this
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

and the default kobold has this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They adult body size is smaller than the MINIMUM_SIZE for the pick. Try changing the MINIMUM_SIZE in ITEM_WEAPON.txt for the ITEM_WEAPON PICK to something like 15000
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

and same for Battle Axes (used for woodcutting)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also, don't forget to add the [INTELLIGENT] tag in your kobold creature or I think they're socials kills just won't move whatsoever.

You could make custom tools that are like normal weapons, but smaller.
Like a Mini Pick, and Mini Axe.
Then just give them that.

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).

Thanks for all the help guys, i finally got it working. ( i went with Monk's idea ) the only bugs that are left are some quirks on the nobles screen, but that's trivial. Thanks again guys.

Indeed, any intelligent kobold knows that killing is neccesary for a social life. If you have never spilled blood your not gonna be popular!
