Nobamney?
« on: June 17, 2012, 05:28:02 pm »

I talk to tons of people every day, sometimes my discussion gets political. I hear a lot of people say they are not voting because they don't like the choices they have. Of the people who say they are voting, I hear three things.
"I'm voting for Romney because I don't want Obama to be elected again."
"I'm voting for Obama because I really don't want Romney."
"I'm voting for Ron Paul!"

Paul's fanatics aside, There is a pretty common theme. The theme of not picking someone to vote for, but vote against.

What kind of election system is that? Are my results wrong? Are there really nobody who wants to vote for their president on his own merits? Maybe someone who has a Third party choice?

So, here's a poll to see where this community is. Change your vote as you want as time goes on. This discussion is about voting against candidates by picking the other candidate, and to see if there's any portion that it is more true for one candidate over the other. This discussion is NOT about any policies of individual candidates or if one is more worthy of the presidency than another. We all know, after all, that the only person worthy of the presidency is me, and I'm not running this year out of respect for all the bacteria lost at sea.

If you don't like the results, remember that lots of people like to cast funny votes and don't accurately represent how they really feel. So yea, entertainment value and all that.

How about "I don't intend to vote, or perhaps will send in a joke vote due to my state never having gone anything other than Republican in the past 40+ years."

Damn you electoral colleges.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

While my age precludes me from casting my vote into the sea of polls, I agree that a lot of people seem to be going with the 'voting for x because I don't like y' stance. Even so, a lot of people around where I live are strongly pro-Romney instead of just anti-Obama. Not to say that they aren't against the current president. Such is the consensus in the second most conservative county in California.

The political setting of where I live is also the reason I staunchly avoid talking politics around where I live. It tends to end with pointless arguments.

Voting for Obama even though he's an ultra-rich total loser because Romney is an ultra-rich possibly-a-psychopath.

I'd vote for Obama if I were an American citizen.

The Republican lineup is a bit off-kilter.

I have no intent to vote because as long as the dead can still vote, and they're not zombies, I count any votes (including my own) invalid, and not worth trying. Plus, I live in an unreliable state where voting is concerned (SEE: Bush/Gore recounts). Already tons of ways to rig them over here to make it not matter, especially if you're not white. That makes the voting grounds here rather unstable/unreliable.

Even if I did want to vote, I would likely still vote neither (or a Third Party) because I don't like either Obama or Romney. My instinct says we're screwed even worse than now if either get into office/continue. I suppose I would vote Pirate Party if Third-Party; mostly because I want to keep the internet alive, and some copyright and patent laws are being abused way too much these days. That doesn't make my job any easier, nor would it for most other people I know my business associates with.

Plus, in any case, I become a "newborn" voter, my vote would be invalid anyway due to some BS policy that's trying to be enacted as law anyway to forbid younger voters (by age or principle; my case being by principle (late-comer)), along with many other unfair plays being done by the elites here in this retirement village of a state to prevent minority voting at a similar level as well. The voting climate here is just like it's weather: unreliable, and full of big nasty bugs and shark infested; also has it's fair share of wasps while at it too.

Is it a principle thing, or do you just fear an uprising of disenfranchised zombie voters?

My state's the other way; having not voted Republican since 1972.  I'm voting Obama, even though he's far from perfect; I can't expect Bernie Sanders or zombie FDR to run for President.

It's more out of principle. I don't fear a zombie uprising of voters. They won't last a week due to malnourishment.

I will be shocked if Romney gets any votes in this poll. Even the more conservative forumites, and I use that word in the most relative of contexts possible, tend to be Ron Paul supporters instead.

As a Citizen and Resident of Canada, I am unable to vote, but even if i could, I would abstain, for nefarious reasons of my own, which I will not disclose at this time.
