I realise I hadn't removed my graphics. Sorry about that.

And my god, Winter really needed a break, forgetting that mason inside the wall. Damn.

So Ive figured out what im going to do come my turn... our entrance will be GLORIOUS once im done. Going to channel out 5 or 6 z levels to create a cliff face which our entrance will be housed, because fuck building an entrance not into a cliff...

Many dwarves will probably perish lol. Engraving, statues and defences... it will be glorious and murderous at the same time. With a failsafe gate blocker... muahahahahaha

27th Limestone 129
Human merchants have been and left with no trouble from goblins, and life in the fortress has been generally uneventful until today.
Winter was grabbing some food when he was disturbed by to see Mebzuth Sinklantern suddenly speaking in tongues and run off toward the workshops with a glassy look in his eyes.
He claimed a Jewellers workshop and set about carving furiously at a single rough tiger iron.

I have heard whispered rumour among the dwarves; they believe him to be possessed by the spirit of his wife Shem Releasetours, who died so recently in combat.
I am not so quick to believe such superstitious nonsense, but perhaps whatever he creates will give us a clue as to what forces possess him.

3rd Sandstone
Mebzuth finally breaks from his trance and emerges from the jewellers shop looking shaken and confused. In his hand he is holding the most perfect tiger iron I have ever seen. He told us this artefact is called ‘The Vigorous Fur’.
Some of the dwarves (the same ones that had said he was possessed by his dead wife) found great amusement in this name.

22nd Timber
The dwarven caravan arrived although the large wagons bypassed the fortress because they were unable to access the depot. I noticed the trees were had grown so much around the entrance that only the traders on horseback could get through.
I have ordered the forest cut back. Hopefully next year they will not have this problem.

I noticed a strange item among the merchant’s wares. An unlabelled barrel containing a mysterious substance. When I asked the traders what was in there they told me it was ‘some liquid’.

Whatever it is, I was intrigued. I made Kib the broker haggle a decent price for it.

22nd Moonstone
“It is finished” said Pul, she looked tired but satisfied. I had ordered the entrance trapped and secured and she had made it a personal mission to make sure it was done.
There are 27 copper spikes ready to pierce any future intruders, all forged by Pul herself. We also have a drawbridge which Pul had hooked up to a lever so we can retract it if we need to keep anyone out.

I am very pleased with her efforts; she did all this without a single complaint.

Perhaps Winter could take a leaf out of Pul’s book. Now he is whining about the damp. Apparently there is mildew in his opulent bedroom, and its keeping him awake. Maybe if he had stayed up all night forging copper spikes he wouldn’t have such trouble sleeping....

11th Opal
There is too much partying and not enough work going on round here. I have decided it is time for a bit of discipline in the fortress. I head to the dining room and look over the dwarves who have nothing better to do than sit around get drunk.

I see Adil Minesanctums, a fellow farmer apparently too busy drinking to till the fields.
“Congratulations Adil” I say to him, patting his shoulder
“You’re the new Captain of the Guard!”
“But...” He responds
“No need to thank me Adil, you can collect your equipment from the stockroom right away”

A chuckle arises behind me. It’s Sarvesh Canyonsculpted, a milker, his mouth half full of Llama cheese roast.
“I don’t know what you’re laughing at Sarvesh. You’re going to be our new hammerer!”

His face dropped. The hammerer is the least popular dwarf in any fortress. I could already see his friends edging away from him.
“Now...” I said, addressing the room
“Anyone else need me to give them a job?”

I’ve never seen so many dwarves suddenly try to look busy.

5th Obsidian
I am putting the finishing touches to our new recreation area, the zoo.
Currently it has just one exhibit- A giant hedgehog. It is my hope that we will acquire more exotic creatures in the future to add to our bestiary.

Now my fellow dwarves will have a space for education and quiet reflection, and less of this constant partying.

18th Obsidian
The year is almost over and I am in a reflective mood. I decide to check up on the injured dwarves.
Amazingly Nil is up and walking as if nothing ever happened. Her broken and lacerated leg healed nicely with no lasting problems except for a large scar. She is back in the archery range practicing her aim.

Ushat is not doing so well. She has been in bed since Felsite and has not received the sutures she needs. It is the same for Sigun, who has been languishing in the hospital for over a year now. Perhaps the doctors have forgotten them. Maybe I should ask the hammerer to have a word...

23rd Obsidian

....

30th Obsidian
The time has come; I am to relinquish control of the fort today.
What have I achieved during my year in charge? A giant hedgehog and a barrel of ‘liquid’.
If I die tomorrow, that will be my legacy to the fortress.

I am happy to pass control on to Pul. Her tireless grafting this year has impressed me greatly. She is already drawing up plans for a great cliff-face dug in to the front of the fortress. Finally we will have an entrance worthy of a mountain hall.  It looks like Winter’s pick arm will be getting quite the workout next year!

(OOC- Im way ahead of you on the gate-blocker Pul, but feel free to change it any way you want)

Tough guy Grizzle!

Nice work on the entrance and the Zoo. I'll do some work to get it more crowded when it's my turn again.

Granite 1st, year of our ale 130... or something.

So for some reason, some nitwit from corporate (Or whatever) decided that we needed to keep logs of our progress on this expedition. I failed to get the memo, and therefore we started our fine fortress, 1 year earlier than any records shall show.
Deal with it.

However, being handed the reigns (not) once again, I shall lead this fortress into pure glory and massive constructions. First target... Our pitiful entrance. Merely a story tall, it isn't imposing nor impressive. Merely... functional. This will be fixed. Winter and his fellow miners are immediately set to work in what can no doubt be the largest excavation this fortress has seen, and shall see for a while to come.

10th of Granite

Winter... You're supposedly the best miner around... yet you collapse yourself in?
And you want to blame me for designating it be dug? FOOL, anyway, get back to work after your nap of "unconsciousness" and have a drink on your break!

You did it twice in a row for fucks sake... How are we supposed to do this is if the miners are this dumb? make it from the mound of corpses? This will be discussed after your SECOND nap of the day...

See what you've done Winter? You set the precedent. Now to be accepted as a miner, one must survive a two story cave in. Great. This project is slowed on it's beginnings.
Each and every miner has now fallen. Disaster. By Armok, this project will be completed. One miner fell onto a baby. That's on you. You didn't do it, but instead set the trend.

16th Granite, finally the cave in's stop. For now that is...
The trick will be to find the lever to our current draw-bridge, so as to link the second (in development) drawbridge to it. Or to at least put it's lever near the first one's lever.

18th Granite. Progress is horrifically slow. 3 new miners and picks are comissioned. Winter please don't teach them to fly. They probably won't survive the fall.

13th of Slate
It appears even with the new dwarfpower this endevor shall be a challenge. However I feel giving Winter a project upon which to fortify as well as improve the appearce of the fortress will do him some good. Also Grizzle will enjoy the engraving I have lined up. It will be wonderous.

14th of Slate:
Leec... Migrants arrive. Because with over 40 children we don't have enough useless slack around here as it is...
Now we number over 212 dwarves... Lovely. I hope the farms can handle the fluxuation... For I know not much of farming.

3... 3 cave ins with literally no damage done. Just naps......
two of them were 2 z levels, 1 was 3 z levels... and he's just like "I'll be good after a nap."
He totally did not care. He's more irrated by the sun, than falling a combined 7 Z levels in about two days time...
Oh, he also taught his new miners how to fly... some scrapes and bruises are around lol.

PS, I think I know whats wrong with the trade depot. The traps are not wagon friendly... Because i moved some tunnels around and no matter what I did, it always stopped at the traps. Going to make an alternate route  in that bypasses those traps, (But will be marksmen heaven).

17th Felsite:
The elven traders arrive, offering us most useless goods. So I had the broker get all of their plants / crops, a Cheeta, for I remember some crazed idea of a zoo... and other animals. as well as a decent amount of cloth for just some extra toys we have stored up. Elves want weird things...

So... game pause... wheres that lever? heh...
This is what I wanted to have a group for. It's paused and saved now, and I have no idea how to utilize military / get everybody indoors, pull levers etc etc...

and I have no idea how to utilize military / get everybody indoors, pull levers etc etc...

to use military, use the 's' menu, you can move them to any location by then pressing 'a' or 'b' (to select one of the squads) them press 'm' and then select where you want them to move to.
Or instead of 'm' you can use 'k' to tell them to go kill a certain creature.

to get everyone indoors you will have to create a burrow with the 'w' screen, make a burrow indoors and add all citizens to it, although ive noticed an annoying habit in my last fortress for dwarfs to ignore these burrows sometimes. you might be better off leaving the dumb ones and closing the gate if the gobbos get too close

to pull a lever, press 'q' over it, then 'P' to pull the lever
