Small Group succession game
« on: June 17, 2012, 04:10:14 pm »

So Im interested in furthering my DF skills and the most fun way to learn is via experience.
That being said I'd like to start up a succession game with one or two more people playing vanilla Df.
As for skill, I pretty much am doing horrible heh, my current game has survived meagerly for about two years but thats just due to a lack of mass monsters.

I feel a good way to try it out would be have it all on normal, but with another player able to spot the weaknesses i create.

Preferrably itd be a quick succession game, turns lasting a few days if possible, however a week is .reasonable

Any interest? Also having no prior succession game play i dont know the exacts of how to properly do a succession game.

Im interested in this, Ive never played succession before (although Im signed up for another to start soon also).
My current fort is boring, this should be an interesting way to play.

I'm interested in this as well. Especially the short turns.

Awesome, sounds like we have the 3 :)

AustralianWinter, do you know how to go abouts doing the whole transfer of saves etc?
As for the turns, the MAx will be a week but if possible we would want to keep it as short as we can. Kind of like hot potatoe DF.

So Vanilla 34.11 (or w.e the most recent one that got released like a week ago) with just normal starting outs.

I'm thinking we go for flux stone, deep soil, shallow metals, deep metals and a river, with cliffs? (I know it's the most obvious choice but lets get some discussion on how we wanna go about this)

As far as production goes, nothing fancy to start (Since to be honest I've yet to get to the point of harvesting ore, melting it, and forging weapons from it...) so I'll be doing like stone crafters etc.
And this won't be a game of "Dick the next guy" as I've been reading on the forums... Hilarious but I am trying to have this be a learning experience.

Yeah, I know how to transfer saves. You zip the region-folder in WinRar (or somesuch), and then upload it to DFFD, where the next player downloads it.

Awesome, well then I think we shall begin... tomorrow.

Namely since I fail at farming apparently. Nice little bag of 92 plump helmet spawns next to the farm plot. Derp farmer cancels action "plant .... no plump helmet spawns."
-.-

Update, put every one of my 32 dwarves avaliable onto all possible hints of farming.
Got a spam of cancels. Yet I see the bag of helmet spawns not 5 squares away. Once I figure out why this is, I'm down to start, so as to not dick you guys over with a fail farm to begin.

I get that spam all the time even though they are growing plump helmets like crazy
check the spawns aren't forbidden or something like that.

as for embark location, sounds good to me. maybe get some scary wildlife in the mix, you dont want it too easy or things will get boring :P
dwarf one of the starting 7 as GrizzleBridges and give me points in engraving and planting, if possible!

Ok, found a pretty sweet embark location. Deep soil, flux stone, shallow metals, deep metals, forested area etc. All in all, it's a good location, and it's a 2x2 :)
Got the dwarves set up with desired names and skills, Winter is a skilled miner, rizzle is a competent engravers, adaquete grower, novice herbalist / brewer (We can have someone else brew once we get immigrants)
I took the jack of all metals Dwarf, named pul, he has pretty much everything to do with metal,

We also have a wood based dwarf, as well as a stone based one.
Our backup miner is the fighter too.

For items, since I'm paranoid as F#$@, I switched up some cloth items, namely threads and sheets (because... look at those prices) and instead got us a war dog and another 35 plump helmet spawns

And apparently it's a cold area (Challengeing...?) Was an accident but otherwise glorious!
I took a screen shot of the embark location (paused) and can't get it to upload here. I just suck at life right now so, I started, should be ready to pass on tomorrow.

Australian, you interested in going next? to start to save my mistakes i'll inevitably begin hehe.

Yeah, I can go next. Only problem we'll be having with cold climate is water for the wounded. Also, I usually do the exact same thing with cloth and thread and that other rubbish.

Are we roleplaying this, btw?

Ok yea the i cant figure out the picture link.
As far as RP we can, allows some fun narratives, though my character isnt the embark leader. Itll be interesting.

Its about a month in and were doing good, when i get off work tonight ill provide more details, i managed to skrew up already with a staircase... a workaround is current just have to fix it up hag. But we've hit gold! Only two blocks but its good start
