Also, how would it fare vs. ballistae fire?  Although the aim is hilarious at best, don't they basically bisect everything in the tile they pass through, freind or foe?
Ehh, I don;t know. I've only ever managed to hit people with wooden ones, but they survived. Pretty seriousky injured, mind you, but alive.
I find they're hilariously good at gibbing civilians.
I must remember to retry with the new steel ones. Now to find some useless civilians. I have 30 not working right now. FUN TIMES ARE COMING BITCHEZ.

Ballista bolts are currently bugged to only do blunt damage.

Steel is at least heavier right? So there.

Ranged weapons are overpowered enough that I would think that just massing marksdwarves you'd be able to chip it to death.  I know it worked on a Jasper Quadruped, but even if diamond is tougher, I would think it would just take longer.

As hard as crystals are, they're still vulnerable to fracturing.

Foolprooof way to penetrate aquifers of unlimited depth.  (Make sure to import at least 10 stones for mechanisms)
Toughen Dwarves by dropping stuff on them.  (Nothing too heavy though, and make sure to wear armor.)

AH HA!
I think I've worked out titan research. Generate a world with as many titans and as many caves as possible. The map I'm using has every tile as a cave, it's beautiful. Go adventuring, then switch to arena mode via df hack as soon as you come across a titan. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

I tested that way back when with the diamond behemoth earlier in the thread; the crossbowdwarves will fracture every last inch of it, but it seems almost impossible for them to actually kill it. One of them fell into the river in arena mode and just chilled out underwater with 300+ steel bolts in it.

Whips appear to not give a fuck about helmets, could you whip it to death?

My son, many speak of the honor in war.
My preferred method is to wait until their back is turned, then impale them with a pike held by someone else.
Preferrably from a distance.

Member people, just because it can pierce armor, doesn;t mean it can pierce this. Besides, those things work on flesh. Solid inorganic is a whole 'nother ball game. Totally immune to such things. Only way to kill it conventionally is dissecting it.

One Diamond Behemoth vs 20 Grandmaster Lashers with steel whips.

Results from six minutes later:

Survivors: One Diamond Behemoth, everything broken, but still able to crawl around and push things.
Casualties: Twenty dead dwarves. Eight of them died by suffocation while the rest had their skulls shoved through their brains via pushing.

So, no, that doesn't seem to work.

It's immune to burning, but you could still cast it in obsidian or drop a cave-in on it.  Of course, if you think that's too "lame," you could fight webs with webs!  Have a little GCS pillbox in a cage-trapped hallway and capture it in the name of science.

I'd be interested to see how it fared against the full fury of HFS.
